Well we never really troubled their goal because of apparent lack of a striker but bearing in mind we kept them to 1 goal and they do have strikers so charlie boy not all doom and gloom ...just yet anyway
Nothing to do with having a striker, it's not getting the ball to them

Yeah, but when we had McNumpty, he made intelligent runs, therefore creating space for the midfielders to get the ball to him or to try to go towards goal themselves

Create space and it gives you more chance of creating chances.

If he looked north of the border he'd find a 22 year old who scored 30 goals last season and has hit 8 in 3 games so far this summer. Maybe lure him down with some original recipe Irn Bru

Nicky Clark at Queen of the South a few years ago looked streets ahead of where Shankland is now and he did nothing at Bury. Shankland looks one paced even against a diabolical Stenhousemuir side. Sorry not the answer for me.

At similar junctures in their careers and keep in mind he's still bagged a few hat-tricks despite it still being effectively pre-season. Point taken on it not working out for Clark but Shankland is of similar build + style to McNulty if we're looking at type of player. Just my thoughts

Didn't get into any positions for any of that. Andreu isn't a wide player nor is Westbrooke. Shipley was poor on the other side. Was plenty of runs being made though

On tonight's showing it's going to be a long hard season if we don't get a goalscorer in.

In fairness, tonight's team is 4 or 5 players away from our first choice really. McNulty's (hopeful) replacement, Jones, Ogogo or Kelly and Bayliss or Sterling even.
Yep.

Jones will feel like a brand new player and we were all very pleased when we got Ogogo. Bayliss and Sterling to come in too.

Am not at all worried.

Why didn't they turn the lights on? I had some proper 'Wembley' fans behind me tearing mainly into Westbrooke and bemoaning how we'll be going down next season. Paying no attention to the fact that the opposition were actually very good and it was a fucking friendly.

When you think about some of their players too, cost more than our squad.

Not sure with the lights. Even when walking out through the club house bit in the corner only the emergency lights were on

Guess that’s why the second half seemed shorter? Ref happy to call it time before it got really dark? Perhaps he was wearing the same glasses as me? :)

Apparently the generator has been vandalised twice in the last week and they didn't have time to fix it before the match.

That's true to be fair. A lot rests on whether we can adequately replace McNulty and whether Jones can replicate last seasons form.

I'm not one to read too much into preseason, its about fitness, etc, but we looked blunt tonight.

Surprised about Brown. 2 in my car thought he looked good but I disagreed. As I posted at HT I won’t write a player off in pre season but he’s yet to do anything to impress.
He was pretty good at taking the ball and laying it off and surprisingly good in the air, won a fair few headers.

Didn't get forward much at all.

I don’t know which game you guys watched but brown wasn’t impressive yesterday.

It is pre season mind you and he probably isn’t fully fit and just needs more game times

I agree with you. Brown was slow. Gave the ball away. Looked 2 yards of the pace. Hopefully he improves

Someone shoots (yes I really am struggling with the lack of light now!), Derby keeper saves

That was Allassani, he looked lively when he came on...

My Thoughts on last night... we generally held our own in defence & midfield in first half, against a side competing at top end of championship. Junior brown prob looked best player, strong defensively & good in air - as some others have said though he didnt get forward much in first half & it was him that didnt stop the cross from their right back which led to the goal - to be fair it was tight though & great cross / great header!

Second half they made wholesale changes & I thought we had the better of the half, I actually think the strikers did have a bit of service second half, we were playing some decent balls over the top & max took a couple of them down lovely in the area, but then no end product. Same with through balls, I saw a few nice through balls but our strikers were no where to be seen. max was out wide right & Pontecelli had just gone missing second half. he was back midfield, certainly no where near the goal! so the balls we did play through ( where a McNulty would be running on to them last season ) were just running straight through to the keeper. As I say strikers playing too deep... or just not on it enough. Pontecelli should have been right up on shoulder of last man for those through balls as he is the supposed goal poacher & Max should have been the one playing the deeper number 10 role to feed him , I think it was clear what we were missing last night

Allassani looked skilful & strong on the ball he was only on for 10 mins though, so hard to tell if that would last a match / half , or if it was just a 10 minute burst. like to see more of him

We were always in there last night id say, and they didnt take us apart or anything like that, but conversely we never really looked like scoring. Missing a lot of key players last night too - Jones, Oggogo, Willis, Dujon Sterling and Tom Bayliss. Stick them in any side and its instantly lifted up a few levels right ?

Didn’t we have a shocker of a pre-season a few years back under Mowbray? Then Armstrong came in late pre-season and we were scoring for fun?

No need to worry... if we’re 10 games in without a win, that’s the time to worry. Not in pre-season

Can't remember last pre season but pretty sure it wasn't great. I know mm was getting asked why he can't score in open play.

We are missing the best 3 players of the last month of the season for me. Bayliss, mcnulty and kelly. Mcnulty obviously gone and needs replacing. But bayliss and Kelly will be back. It's worrying Kelly has missed all pre season as after his injury it took him a month to get back to form.

We will sign a striker. Who I don't know but to go into the season with 2 big lads and a youth player would be football suicide

I thought he looked very strong for a little bloke, great close control with the ball too. That one where he had it in the corner and took one on but then got dragged down by his neck. Will be exciting to see him I think.

The officials weren't up to much at all, watched Grimmer get smashed by their player that lampard laughed at. Soon as Grimmer gets chance he puts the ball out and the player as well and no foul.

Can't believe they missed Davies take out their player in the box, he kicked his legs away.
