To be expected. And I'm not surprised we've rejected them.

Just hope it doesn't unsettle him and he starts wanting to speak to clubs.

Can see him going if it gets close to £1m, but anything less than that we should reject.

Hardest player to replace. Need more than £1m minimum. Natural goal scorers are like hens teeth.

He’s out of contract next season so I’d imagine we’d have to either offer him a new deal now or gambling and risk losing him for 0 at the end of next season

I agree - I think we should hold out for closer to £1.5m really. Anything much less than that, and it'll be worth our keeping him - provided his head dosn't get turned of course. I'm not at all surprised about Reading's interest, just the low level of their bids. Maybe they think they can get him on the cheap because we're desperate for cash. That's no longer the case - for the moment at least.

If we were to get promoted I think we'd need to look elsewhere for a championship striker anyway tbf

And if we didn't get promoted I can see him wanting off anyway.

I'd guess we've already been talking about a new deal
The problem is most Championship clubs can dwarf the wages and bonuses that any League 1 club can offer
Even so we are in a very strong position for any of our under contract players

Regardless of how much he may go for, it's got to go back in to the squad (unlikely i know).
I'd also be hoping for nearer 2. Luton made near 1.5 with sells on from Andre Gray from when he was sold to Brentford

What makes you so sure the money won't go back into the squad?

I dont think he'll go anywhere. Robins is comfortable with the budget we have and he'll have agreed he has final say on transfers out i reckon

Just from past experiences. Difficult to replace a player of his calibre in league 1 without overpaying or finding a gem in leagues below realistically
Agreed that it'll be hard to replace him, but that's not what you said. You said the money we make for him will unlikely be reinvested back into the squad.

I agree with this!
He loves Robins who stuck by him when he found goals hard to come by. If he repeated that with Reading he would be warming the bench.

Third bid according to some guardian journo. Would love some contract extension news next MR
Reading finished 3 points off being relegated - McNulty is at a club that loves and understands him - a club on the up.
Why would he want to join a club heading in the other direction?

Lets show our intent!
Sign the best players we can and keep the best players we've already got! Simples!

I don't like these "Paper Talk" articles- they unsettle the player and alert all the other clubs.
Mark Robins needs to lean on McNulty to sign a new (improved) contract and then tell every other interested tin-pot clubs to do one!
Agree - MR & Doyle need to have a chat with him - emphasise the support he gets here & how much he's improved due to the coaching.

For me, a penny less than £1m is a robbery and we should be holding out for £1.5-2m. That’s his worth to us.

I’d be surprised if any championship side paid that because at 25, he’s not exactly a young talent, but he’s got his peak ahead of him. I’m hoping we’ll keep him this window.
