On the face of it, that does seem a shame. Can't comment on the ins and outs of it but we've been much more organised with recruitment this season (making signings in Mid-May). Generally the signings have been a success. We can only hope that the transfer policy was mostly down to Robins but I suspect Widdrington was central to it.

Seems a bit of a sideways move doesn't it?

Really disappointed with this as like Nick said, he clearly improved our recruitment. But, at the end of the day he's moving to a higher league, so the pay will obviously be better so can't blame him. Let's hope a replacement is brought in quickly as the transfer window is just around the corner!

Wonder how much work has gone into this summers recruitment already and subsequently been lost. Hopefully the fact we don't know which division we will be in yet has limited the damage somewhat.

Let's hope he doesn't take our assets with him - even more of a necessity to compete at the same level as BR next season now.

As long as he hasn't taken our recruitment database with him.........

Don't worry, he left it behind.

The worry must be, if we had all of our eggs in one basket regarding recruitment - hopefully MR/the club already have a Contingency plan, as TW will surely be going to Bristol Rovers with a similar 'database' of players as we were looking at. Hopefully they are looking at different 'positions' within their squad to us.

Semi retired now, but would love a job like this - although you'd end up hated by half the people on here! Come on Grendel. get your application in asap and then you can't moan about any of the incoming players! You must be tempted.

This does seem a shame, as recruitment seemed to be vastly improved this summer. I guess that's down to both of them though isn't it, not just TW. Hopefully we can get a competent replacement in.

I do get the feeling though that you pay for what you get, and if Robins has some autonomy which I expect he does to allocate enough of the budget to that position then it shouldn't be an issue to get someone in.

On the plus side, he can take Haynes, McDonald, O'Brien to Bristol Rovers

Sounds like he's done things in an honourable way
Gives Robins plenty of time to get a replacement in ahead of the most important period
Clubs can only sign players once they finish their season, hopefully in our case after the play off final
I'd guess that there will be plenty of good people interested in the Coventry job

Smart move for him really. Darrell Clarke is held in very high regard down here so he should be stable with him for a while, not like when we lose 1 match and Robins and all his staff need sacking.

shame really, the change in direction from perm signings rather than a million loanees has made a difference but again still room for improvement but this will come down to affordability again

Really bad news this potentially is, worked wonders in a short space of time this time last year and its paid off by the amount of players we signed and were competitive in the league this year.

I’d imagine a large part of the scouting has been done already it’s more a case on who to follow up dependant on where we sit come the end of may or more importantly who is on the retained list mid May

Let’s hope the next man is of similar backgrounds and ability

We will probably just revert to the Former Players Association database. After the success of Doyle, Clarke-Harris and Baker, let’s look forward to welcoming home Aaron Martin and Chris Kirkland next season.

The success of Baker? What's Sophie Faldo got to do with anything?*

(*I did have to Google her name, I don't watch tosh like GBBO)

No idea who she is.
Anyway we’ve not lost a single game that Baker’s been involved with since his return.
She's the "baker" who won GBBO last year (says Google). The only Baker I know of who has had any success recently......

As if it would pay enough

This is a concern as he seemed to have made a positive difference to our recruitment. Obviously, not every player was a success, but most seem to have worked out at this level. I would guess that he's been offered better terms and conditions.
