Should Robins remain as manager if we fail to finish top 7 this season?

Should we not make the play offs I'd still give him another summer to add and build again.

How many were walking in a Robins wonderland just 14 days ago? I didn't see many turn away going well I'm nots so sure on his tactics... I'll not sing that.

I'm guessing we might have lost yesterday with all the positivity on the board this weekend. The o/p is being creative in the way he's consistently managed to dig out Robins in every post for a couple of days. I think the poll is a genius step.

If he fails to take us up then he should be given until Nov/Dec of the following season to show that he has got what it takes to turn us into contenders for the autos.

Over his 2 spells at the club he has a win % of around 50%.

Good shout he conducts himself well and has some sort of history at the club ,
Conducts himself well!? At Pompey he sparked a team mate out at half time!

Robins should stay of course. We gave Mowbray a second season and he failed to get us up with a squad that included Maddison, joe Cole, Murphy, Armstrong etc etc.

The worry is that players like McNulty, Grimmer, Willis and McDonald will want to leave if we don't go up this season, it will be very hard to replace them

I think he has to go if we do not make top 7 with our resources/fanbase/one of the largest playing squads in the league
there really is no excuse for not as a minimum making play offs!

I would be disappointed if we do not make top 3 tbh! Looking like I will be disappointed on that score at the moment!!!

Fanbase alone is irrelevant - it's income based on fanbase (e.g. F&B, car parking, alternative venue use etc) and, in particular 'resources' (such as capital injection) that matters, and we don't appear to have insight into that.

No sure that squad size means that much - could simply be a bunch of academy kids put on contract retainers - never mind the quality, feel the width. Nevertheless, let's play that game:

1 Colchester 44
2 Exeter 42
3 Barnet 41
4 Cheltenham 40
5 Luton 39
6 Chesterfield 38
7 Newport 37
8 Grimsby 35
9 Coventry 34
10 Port Vale 34
11 Stevenage 34
12 Wycombe 33
13 Crewe 32
14 FGR 31
15 Accrington 30
16 Notts County 30
17 Cambridge 30
18 Mansfield 28
19 Morecambe 28
20 Carlisle 28
21 Swindon 27
22 Lincoln 27
23 Crawley 27
24 Yeovil 27

So, Robbins should be at least 9th - 11th, with Stevenage and Port Vale.

Ridiculous to expect much if there's not a pot to piss in, simply 'because we are Coventry'

I'm surprised to read the likes of Otis saying he should go if we don' make the play-offs. The revolving door only sets us back each time. Just say we finished 7th, and only a couple of points off the automatics, would it really be beneficial to sack him and start again? Surely with a little tweaking to the squad, and a years bonding behind them the team would be much stronger. And who on earth is going to replace him, certainly nobody guaraneed to do better.

Sorry didn' mean to single you out Otis, just I usually nod in agreement when reading your posts.

Nope. He said the intention was promotion and we were 3rd favourites for promotion with the bookies.

Below 7th is a failure.

I guess there is a gray area of being pipped at the post on goal difference etc., but clearly outside the playoffs is undoubtedly a failure

We have the best defence in the league and one of the top goalscorers.

No excuse.
We did have the best defence

there'd be no guarantee the better players in the squad would to stay. We always have the 'who would ever come here' and there's always plenty of applicants.

Trouble for me we were beaten after just 3 minutes yesterday, I know there’s been illness in the camp but I just looked at the players demeanour when they scored and I knew there would be nowhere back and it looked like our players felt the same. If we think the format and tactics are crap so will the players .

Surely we really do soon, need to ask the question could any manager ... with the budget that he would be afforded, could get us out of this league ... I think probably most would do no better under those conditions and hence I'd keep him ...

Yes of course they could do.

I’d be very dissointed if we don’t make the play offs, especially as we have been in and around play off to date.

Yes I would like to see Robins given another chance, as I believe he has been hampered by injuries to no doubt our best player Jodi Jones. And to lesser extent Tony Andreu.

Missing arguably the best player in the league, is a big miss. Very unfortunate.

It’s a shame we never got to see McNulty and Jones on fire together.

We really have missed a quality winger and especially that pace on the counter. If we had Jones we may still may have had this blip but the difference would have been we would still been in play offs.

Most of you are already justifying failure because that is the Coventry way,it is what we expect and what the club constantly deliver,at the very least we should expect a playoff place which i might add we would fail in " just a hunch" personally i don't believe MR has it in him to deliver a promotion either auto or the playoff's he is weak and doesn't have the strength to carry us forward. What was it he said yesterday that Accrington were "streetwise" what utter BS, what he should of said was that we were totally clueless and he didn't have an answer to them..So yes!! if we fail this season which you know deep down we will,he has to go!! this is L2..i know some on here luv MR and see he can do no wrong, but you guys are the deluded ones..

This sums the entire thing up for me. I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of people who want us to fail so they can be proven right.

It's fucking pathetic.

Edit: "A bit like our performance on saturday LOL" etc, I'll save anyone the bother

There are people who want us to fail as success takes pressure off the owners, (who I do not defend)

Changing managers has brought hope and despondency but not success.
At some time you have to break out of the vicious spiral and give a manager a chance to learn about the league and how to get out of it.
Sticking with Mark Robbins is a good place to start..........and I am not deluded. I do see his mistakes (in my opinion)

Robins did say himself though that we were the best team in this division.

That's where we disagree. I am totally convinced if we don't go up this season, next season we will be weaker.

I disagree, we will be stronger. Purely just add Jones into the mix, and Maddison money.

Sisu. Will pocket 20% of £25 million. Just need Sisu to give Robins 20% of what they get.

On our day. Not even the best teams can live with us.

Didn’t you have a thread called consistency.
I had one called Lack of Consistency.

When have the best teams not been able to live with us? You would have to look back to earlier in the season.

We beat Swindon, but they were a very good side and we rode our luck a bit. Wouldn't say at all that that's not living with us.

Both Accrington and Exeter who are above us have beaten us quite easily lately.

You think Jones will stay next season if we’re in L2 again? He would have gone in January IMO if he didn’t get injured
Yup and people seem to be just guessing over any Maddison money.

I would not be at all surprised if we lost Willis, McNulty, Bayliss and Jones next season.

Otis I have seen 28 matches in the league this year,

Exeter could have gone either way.

Vs Swindon we were clinical in both boxes. We deserved to beat them both games. Yes could have been a Draw.

It's a long time since we beat Luton and Notts County.

Out of the top teams around us, Mansfield, Accrington, Newport and Exeter have all beaten us.

We didn’t lose them this transfer window.
I know. We have been in the top 7 though and looking likely to go up, or at least be with a great chance of going up.

We fail, the summer is going to feel a hell of a lot different.

I am convinced they would go.

We played Exeter off the park, when they were top...remember. At home. Should have won 4-5 nil

But you said the top teams can't live with us? Been just as many days when the top teams have, so it's a moot point.

When was the last time it was our day?

I don't think we have played very well for some time now and both Swindon and Cambridge were not great performances and FGR and Accrington were both awful.
