First Christmas tip this morning on the round. As the house is monthly I won't be back till January, so the customer gave me a fiver extra.
I never ask for a tip as that would be cheeky, but it makes you feel appreciated when they do give you something. I get packets of biscuits, Xmas cards, and one old lady used to give me her home made cake. What amazes me is some customers put themselves out, while those with the big house and two flash motors on the drive don't bother. The bin men used to knock my mum and dads house and ask for money on Xmas Eve, my dad would say " here's a good tip lads, piss off ! "

I remember doing my paper round in Henley Green, made a fortune in tips at Christmas. I always try and throw in a Christmas tip, though I don't have a window cleaner at the minute, the bloke doing the local round is about as reliable as a Stuart Beavon goal.

Had a few tips myself but generally find it’s people that are average Joes that give them more than those that are better off. That being said I worked the night before I went to Basel for the game in 2014. It just happened I was working at an event for a Swiss Bank. When at the end of my shift I explained to the M.D./CEO the reason why I had a suitcase and holdall with me he got his wallet out and gave me 300SF. Needless to say that was a good trip!

Another really good one was a current music star. I didn’t have a clue who he was but realised he was famous when people were flocking round him. He was just appreciative that I was willing to hide him from the mob, talk about normal every day stuff and treat him like a normal human being.

Same when I used to do my paper round in Earlsdon.
The working class bottom half where I delivered to the terraced houses plenty of tips, up the posh houses at the top next to fuck all.

I don't really give tips, don't have a paperboy or window cleaner. Have had people at a car garage help me out so I took them some beers and that type of thing.

I know you're joking but you'd be amazed at how those with money don't like to part with it. I have a moan at my Indian customers, they are great people but where money is concerned they are very "careful " shall I put it. But one Indian couple who I do jobs for the lady makes me a curry to take away, and other food stuff. So better than nowt !

And once Mr Ghandi asked me if I wanted a spare scrim rag,as he had one ? I said yes okay cheers.
He went in his garage and handed me a scrim rag with a hole in the middle of it. I thought it would be okay to clean ledges,as it wasn't good enough for windows.
To my disbelief he said I could have it for a quid,I thought he was lobbing it out ! Unbelievable !

Funny enough he is a nice bloke other than being really tight. He's well known in the close he lives, he knocks neighbours doors if theyve had a job done, and asks them the price they paid ? Then he'll get the contractor to come round his house, but then barter him down trying to reduce the price. He ripped me off once after I did his garden, I told him if he wasn't elderly I'd knock him out. He told me to calm down and just went inside as if it was nothing !

I was a barman in the Wallace many moons ago, and 2 colleagues insisted on having their own Christmas tips jar and not share it with the rest of us although they put the jar out at the start of November

My theory was if a customer asked to take a drink for myself I'd always say I'd take a pound for a drink, I worked Christmas Eve, morning and Boxing Day got about £30 which got me through a night out In January

I worked waitering in my late teenage years, I didn't expect to get tipped as it was a job, but often did, again usually the down to earth people, snobs with all the designer gear and jewellery and that talked to you like they owned you for that hour didn't.

Often you'd take change to a table they'd leave the coppers, sometimes 1p I found that more offensive than nothing as they'd thought about it, I used to follow them and say "excuse me excuse me sir you've forgotten something" and hand it back with a smile they'd take it before realising.

I used to work my bollocks off usually going above and beyond for people and a lot of regular customers would be in and you'd certainly remember the ones that tipped and look after them more, let the chefs know etc.

Was a good eye opener to the 'real world' out of school at 18 to people, manners and the way I'd never be!

He owned two shops and sold both before retiring. He's got a flat in India for him and his wife, and they go on ship cruises. But I hear he took a neighbour to hospital who was in urgent need etc. But when she came home from hospital a few days later, he hinted that she should share the petrol money.
She was that shocked she paid him but she hasn't spoken to him since !

I always tip where I can. Be that a busy bar, a restaurant, barbers etc. Anyone who doesn't deserves a quick death.

Also, I'm thinking of opening a market on the total amount Otis has tipped various people/establishments over the course of his life.

<£2 - 1/5
£2-£4.99 - 4/1
£5+ - 25/1

An elderly lady gave me a tip the other day. She said after putting 50 pence in my hand " here you are, get yourself a pint on me. " I was grateful, but where can you get a pint for 50 pence !

At my local church there is a charity collection tin where you can put any spare change. Proceeds go towards spreading the love of God and improving the facilities inside the church. Your donation would be much appreciated.

My missus usually gives the bin men a box of chocolates every year. She was rushing round to get a tub of celebrations when they came this week. I told not to bother as they just leave stuff everywhere and bins scattered all up the street and generally don't give a fuck about anything. Anyhow she went out to them and the bin was still half full as they drove past her in the truck smiling at her. Doubt she'll be buying them next year.

I haven't got a window cleaner either. Perhaps we all need to hire BBR!

Just been given a box of biscuits. I said many thanks much appreciated. She said no problem it's left over from last Christmas, her husband said give it the window cleaner. At least they're honest !
I'd have thrown the box back in their face. How terribly rude!

I was a paperboy 1980-1982. I did two rounds (fortunately the second round immediately followed the first but on a Wed & Thurs the bag would be jammed to bursting point cos of jobs and property supps - I fell off my bike regularly early on) I only did evenings except for Sunday mornings. One December leading up to Christmas time the lad who did the rounds on mornings (He supported Manure) suggested we should split any tips. Sounded perfectly acceptable to me, I had no probs with that. I was 100% honest with any tips I got in the evening but he claimed he'd only had a couple so far (even then 'only' 20, 30p) It soon transpired that the lying plastic manc was stitching me up when a few old dears enquired as to whether "The boy on mornings" had given me half the tip? I left it a couple of days to see if he'd cough up before I would confront him. I didn't bother tho in the end as I hit the 'jackpot' with the licensee of Willenhall social club handing me £3!
£3 in 1980! I think I was only pulling in a fiver for both rounds!
Needless to say I didn't admit to that or any further tips I got.
