it is seriously about time we started looking at longer contracts for key players or those they seriously intend to build around for the future.
when was the last player signed on something more than a 2 yr deal?
this situation of bringing 9/10 players every season just doesn't seem the way to go. Just 3 players involved in 1st game this season that were involved 1st game last season (strangely enough same situation from season before that with the same 3 players being involved in 1st game last season)

From our BBC Sport web page.

"It got a little bit tight at the end," City manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

"After playing for us, a few clubs became even more alert than they already were and were potentially trying to hijack a deal, but Dagenham and Jodi and his family remained loyal to our agreements.

"I like his directness and his positive play. We can develop him. He can become a goalscorer as well. He can dribble around the end of the box, get a yard and shoot with his left foot. We're excited about him.

"I'm just trying to find some footballers that the club can invest in and give them two, three and four-year contracts, then you can have a continuity to the team."

Technical Director Mark Venus added: "This is the most valuable transfer for the club for a number of years. We need deals like this to help progress to the next level. We've been able to beat a number of other clubs to his signature."

So a lad that couldn't get in a relegated team from league 2 is our signing that is supposed to inspire season ticket sales.A few more quick decent signings please and Williams would be a good start.

Maddison couldn't get in a League 1 team...

Top signing. A huge huge asset looking ahead. This lad I believe will go further than Maddison, Murphy and Kent.

One thing that frightens any defender at any level is pace. He to me looks every bit a better player than aforementioned, lets hope he fulfills his potential next year.

Very nice,so because I have an opinion I'm a twat.I'm pleased he has signed but we need other signings with a little bit more pedigree and no I don't mean a Cole or Hunt and by the way abusing people over a keyboard is very grown up.

I agree with all of the above about signings from lower league teams and I do think he will be a great signing and can't wait to see him play next season just saying it will not inspire season ticket sales my opinion of course what do I no I am a twat according to Huckerby.

Here's a thought, maybe not every signing is made with a hidden agenda of increasing season ticket sales?

Your comment about him not being able to get in a league two team.....he made 35 appearances for them and he's 18? Have you seen him play? He looks to be very talented and is exciting to watch, has potential. Its a great step in the right direction, and the longer term contract is great news.

There are too many cov fans like yourself, who put a negative slant on even good news. We've got enough to moan about without spinning the good news

This is key for me and the way forward. It might take two or three years to get the real base of the team in place and developed but it will be worth it. It would be good to see the annual clear out reduced to 4 or 5 squad players in a couple of years time. So we c an concentrate on quality rather than quantity.

I remember when we signed Scott Dann and Danny Fox
There was negative comments back then that they weren't inspiring signings

They turned out alright in the end.

Then you look at players like Hunt that we signed who are a more inspiring name/ known name and they don't really do it.

from this I've learnt to be inspired by how the players play on the pitch, rather than there name.

Huckerby I have seen him play and he is an excellent signing and will be good for ccfc.I don't knock cov city very often and never moan about signings.I received a standard tweet from ccfc with the Jones signing trying to encouraging me to renew my season tickets.Yes I no it is a general tweet and maybe should of not commented on here about it.

Was pleased to hear TM comment on Rubens qualities as well, suggesting they would likely share the load.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Clive believes the fee is similar to the amount paid for Cody Mcdonald.

The tweet is largely irrelevant, the club will use anything possible to try and boost sales so advertising season tickets after a new signing is a given.

The important thing is Mowbray didn't sign him to sell season tickets, he signed him because he thinks he can be a good player.

Hopefully it's in stages.

Like 100k up front. Then the rest after promotion, league appearances etc.

Wasn't that a fair whack? 400 - 500k?

Would make sense, as I think they turned down bids of about 200k.

Great signing for the club been a long time since we showed some ambition I'd have Jones in our team over maddison and about 3 million all day long

I hope we are a bit more patient with him than we have been with Murphy as he will have bad games and maybe bad months.

He's one of our own and not a loan so hopefully that helps the lad get some slack especially with him being only 18

She signs the cheques. I don't know the people who own the company I work for but I appreciate them putting their hand in their pockets every month in exchange for my services so I can feed my kids.
You appreciate getting paid for going to work, Ffs what hope have we got.

Nick I love your enthusiasm for the club, but come on you'd never take Clive's word
on anything, but this is different cos it shows club in a good light.
If Clive or anyone else had remarked say, they took 400-500 k out of the club to pay
for whatever, you would demand proof and links galore. :thinking about:

Whatever the cost it is a good and forward thinking signing, well done CCFC.

Good start to our summer business. Happy to get him in on a 4 year contract and he looks promising.

I'm not taking his word or taking it as fact?

I said it would make sense, based on offers they rejected

Here we go again, I guantee JS does not put her hand in her pocket, she signs off a budget that the club can afford from revenue generated. She does not know this kid from Adam, nor am i saying she should. She has nothing to do with players contract, scouting or signing of a player, they could all tag team her and she would not know who they are she is not the owner she is looking after the investors money not spending her own cash. As for kowing the owners we would all like to know that.

Im sorry if i am wrong about this, can somebody tell me if i have it wrong.

Yes and backed up why it might make sense, it's not fact. I don't claim it to be

I wasn't throwing statements about trying to make them read as facts, just said that was reported for mcdonald and why it could be around that based on numbers Dagenham turned down in the past for him.

It might show more in accounts I guess.

Jones, Sayoud, Lamires, Spence and Kelly Evans are all of the same sort player very good with the ball at feet, all travel well with it and can get into attacking position quickly. Good signing and in so many ways, shows what TM is looking at to shape the club going forward. Just need a a few older heads 26-29 year olds like Williams, Novak, Cox type's to be put around this young group to have a good season.

Nick it doesn't matter how much, it could be 500k or more, it's just that if it's something
showing the club in a bad light you want facts and try to discredit it.
When the other way round your happy to take Clive's word, I perfectly understand why
you and others do it, since reading this forum it's obvious you have a deep bond with
the club.

I think maybe some fans find it harder to separate the club and owners, and treat them
as two different entities .

Do you mean like when people say about sisu taking money out of the club like it's fact? Or when other people say things without any basis or thought behind them you mean? If it's ranty, angry stuff that's already been disproved, then why not ask for facts to prove otherwise?

Where as I said if it was that value it would make sense, not saying it's fact. I also said why it could have been that.

He's a good signing for our level, if he was hundreds of thousands it's good to see that investment. Even if he was a free on a 4 year contract.

Like that makes a difference? If the lad does really well for a season...& Norwich come in with a £2m offer...the champagne corks will pop at SISU HQ

...onwards & upwards PUSB

We all know that contracts don't mean a player will necessarily stay for however many years, but it does mean they can't walk out for nothing in that time either.
