with all our new signings, and loan extensions are we better placed than those around us?? Gills look likely to lose Dack and maybe one other, Walsall will struggle to keep Sawyers,Bradshaw and Henry, Westley is worried about Posh losing "1 or 2" and Burton have lost a couple of loans gone back to parent clubs.

We seem to be the only side to strengthen,(which makes a change), so I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season.

I don't think so.

At the moment Burton have the upper hand on everyone with their games in hand.

I think we are still a few players away for an automatic promotion push.

January is always a tough time for the teams at the top of league 1. Most cant afford to keep their better players. Our attendances might just allow us to kick on and improve the squad. Im not sure Burton, Gillingham and Walsall will be able to do the same.

That is why Saturday is a must win close the gap at the top.

this what the Burton fans reckon..............maybe the title of this thread should be changed to just Coventry away and lose the big game part, I appreciate a win for either side would be a great result league wise but its only tin pot Cov! They haven't even got a ground they play on a Rugby pitch.

I thought you and Wigan had the upper hand until I saw you against us on Tuesday. Our cup run is taking its toll on a small squad and I suspect we will lose one or two of our best players in January.

We were really leggy on Tuesday following the big cup game and we were probably at only 70% and yet you couldn't put us away and somehow managed to fade in the later stages against a team that looked knackered compared to the energy we are used to.

Wigan can't seem to get a really good run going to penetrate the top four.

Burton seem to be defying gravity and I think we all expect them to hit a bad run at some point. Gillingham have periods when they concede for fun.

So I think it is right up for grabs with the top four all having pluses and minuses against them. Even hands all round. It's all really exciting and enjoyable. I'd love us both to do it to be honest.

Yeah, me too. Never had any problem with Walsall and it seems a pretty well run club.

We were exhausted on Tuesday for sure. Why? Not sure exactly. Maybe TM gave them some time off? Ring rusty?

Thought first half we looked completely in control and we should have put the game to bed. Second half you showed what a good team you can be and I think a draw was a fair result.

How we reduced you to very little in terms of chances I just don't know considering we had to play 3 fullbacks in our back four. Thought our defence coped very, very well.

Good luck for the rest of the season. :)

I think one of the problems we have is that a lot of our squad are either young lads or veterans meaning we have a lot of players who struggle when the games come thick and fast.

it's worrying how tired some of our players looked considering we had a break for cup weekend. Having said that the conditions were horrendous Tuesday.

Who gets sold/recalled in the window, thinking particularly about Walsall and Gillingham here, and how Burton cope with 7 games, 5 away, in March will have a big bearing on how things all pan out.

We do have players who tire. Bit of an Achilles Heel for us that.

JOB seemingly struggles to play 90 mins, Murphy too and Lameiras and also Cole and then there is Fleck who also tends to fade from games on a number of occasions as well. It is a bit of a worry.

Roughly two months ago we did.
A 4 point advantage has been overhauled to be a 3 point deficit while playing 2 more games.
Burton Albion are there on merit, taking most recently 19 from 21 points.
All while missing a couple of players and having a managerial change.

Yep, they have done fantastically well. Quite often teams that have just come up do really well in the higher division and I think a lot of that is down to then having a winning mentality.

Getting promoted can bring such confidence and belief to a team and Burton obviously came into this season really, really positive.

Belief can take you a long way. Whether they have the longevity or not to last the whole season, who knows but fair play to them for being right up there pretty much from the off.

This is why we should just be focusing on getting into the top 2, and anything else after that is a bonus. They might not be the best team in the division, but the way they are going Burton will be promoted leaving it as a real scrap for the other place between several teams.

Bang on Wingy. Although we're still in the hunt, that point swing in such as short time is alarming. If we want auto's we need to stop drawing and go on a 5-6+ winning streak.

especially if we go on one in March/April - its not how you start its how you finish! I believe TM has bought players in to get us over the line. I think he quoted somewhere he is now very much aware of having to rely on to many youngsters when the grounds become bogs and it saps their energy. Saying that i wished he had of reacted to Walsalls 3 Subs on Tuesday Night and bought on fresh legs to smother the midfield.

Very true, i do feel we need another striker, we're over reliant on Armstrong and Murphy for for goals at the minute. And as much as Kent is frustrating, we really missed not having him as an option for the last 20 minutes when Murphy's legs had gone.

Exactly this.

We will be there or thereabouts, definitely top 6, however to make that extra push we require another striker and definitely another commanding centre half.

Dunno about the upper hand but we've got a good hand, I'm quietly confident about our automatic promotion chances and I think teams around us will be worried.

I don't get this about young players lacking energy and cannot last 90 minutes. Young players should have more energy that anyone, and if they don't, it's a sign of poor fitness. What are they doing in their spare time? Smoking, drinking and eating doughnuts?

Never heard of anyone smoking donut to be honest.

I always assumed it was more about being able to manage their stamina. Like they run like mad for 60 mins then are knackered.

But generally I agree, players should. Be able to play 90 min.

There is a big difference physically between 18 and 22. As Shmmeee said is it also about managing stamina? When to close down, push on, when to try and chase down? Plus there is the nervous energy. The game is far more athletic compared to the 1970's (not relatively more skilful).

RCC, Phillips, Haynes, Armstrong, Maddison, Lamieras and Murphy (recently Kent) are all boys...don't forget that.

Indeed, he may very well be. Personally, I think he'll either be outstanding or anonymous. The former, hopefully.

I know he can play as a striker, perhaps that's what TM has in mind for him.

If he still has juice in the tank he is a great utility player who possesses great attacking and defensive awareness. He could be played FB, LM, CM or at a push as a forward. Has experience and leadership qualities. Potentially a great signing. Just depends on his legs.
