Ryan Kent to (actually) be recalled (1 Viewer)

I think if Kent goes back TM might alter tack a bit and move away from 2 wide players and one up front to a more solid midfield and possibly 2 up front he won't have failed to notice we have been sussed a bit, he has recruited a midfielder in Andy Rose plus we have Maddison returning and Joe Cole and Gael Bigiriamma. We need a centre forward.

You seem to be forgetting the set up at the start of the season and how successful that was...Maddison and Lameiras linking up again...magic!!!

Why are people so excited by Lameiras? One goal and 3 assists all season.

We're talking about football. Lameiras is clearly a star and you must have a short memory if you forget how well he and Maddison linked up at the start of the season!

I wouldn't go as far to say Lameiras is clearly a star.

But it is clearly apparent that Lameiras played his best football in the first couple of games and also we played our best football in those games as well. I would definitely like to see that set up of JOB, Maddison, Lameiras and Armstrong as a front 4 given a run out in the near future.

If he's clearly a star he wouldn't be just starting his career with us.

He's form is very erratic. Some games effective - others anonymous.

1 goal and 1 assist. Lamaries has started 3 more games than Kent.

Quite surprised that Kent has less starts...I mean, yeah, Ruben is erratic but he can produce a piece of sheer technical brilliance in a heartbeat. Kent is always the same: run, do a stepover, run a bit more, lose possession/ball goes out of play.

Ruben is unpredictable and can turn on the style when he wants to. Getting him to do it consistently will be the difference between him being a star, and being average.

Assists can be a little misleading too. Kent has been wasteful in really good positions, but Lameiras has put a few really great through balls that have been wasted by the recipient, so any good work there goes unnoticed stat wise.

Some of the balls that have been played by Lameiras are world class and he has been Motm as well did Kent ever get a Motm performance. ?

Yep, I think Flash Harry magazine gave him 11/10 once and All Fur Coat and No Knickers magazine had him as MOTM in every game he appeared in and then also in some games where he didn't appear at all in as well.

I liked Kent think he has great potential....people will start to miss him once he has gone. But it might mean Lameiras gets a bit of a run which will be good.

I don't know how we can miss him if he didn't do anything.

He does have potential, but all we saw were tiny fragments and that one goal apart, his shooting was terrible , his crossing all but non existence and his greediness frustrating.

I can't see how we are going to miss him. Miss his one assist and one goal in sixteen matches?

I think we can loan in a player who will benefit the team more to be honest.

People keep saying Klopp doesn't like loans but apparently they have nearly 20 players out on loan. What are they all going to do? They won't be getting much in the way of game time thats for sure.

Yep, this, in a nutshell.

The lad has bags of potential, but like I said elsewhere, we won't see the best of Ryan Kent. Two more years and he may have the ability and mindset to be a team player, as opposed to a showboat who produces very little.

Watch him tear Crewe to pieces now, the little git.

Be amazed if he plays vs Crewe if he's going back. Unnecessary risk of injury to him and no point us playing him when we are not exactly short of midfield options

Klopp have had little to do with what´s in place now in terms of loan arrangements.
All this has been sorted (from what I can tell) by the Academy Director Alex Inglethorpe and his staff. He is very much critical of the u21s league, which is seen as dysfunctional and problematic because of big schedule gaps.

Liverpool, as Chelsea and City, have started stockpiling talent from across the British Isles and abroad, some obviously mainly as speculative investments. Buy cheap, try and build their value, sell at a profit.

Then you have the top tier talent (as they see it), rare players who will become 1st team material. More likely as squad players, but the odd one like Sterling will bypass the whole loan process and be a starter from an early age.

From LFC´s point of view, ideally, you´ll be out on loan way before you have turned 20, and the U18 sides are starting to look like u16/17s and the U21s at times like U19s.

Ryan Kent is going through a similar process like Jordon Ibe at Derby last year, recalled to become an impact player in a packed January schedule. The u21s league isn´t highly thought of in house, like I said, so if he´s recalled it´ll be to get minutes. Whether he´s ready or not.

There is still the emergency window and all that so I suppose he could head out on another loan in February... Klopp has apparently reacted to injuries to Divock Origi, Henderson, Ings and the chronically unfit Sturridge.

The stance on player management since Klopp came in has been clear: he is very sceptical of using any money in January as he goes by in assessing what he has at his disposal before the summer window.

So this is what Ryan Kent is heading into. Exeter in the FA Cup seems like a good place for him to start, loads of games coming up, fatigue must soon be kicking in with some players. There are lots of no 10 types at LFC who want a lot of the ball and lot of touches on it, if Kent (however raw) can offer something more direct, he is an asset. Possibly.

Yeah, that was my initial thought too, that he would be on the bench and I think that may well be the case, but I can foresee him getting game time tomorrow.

The recall isn't anything to do with Liverpool being short on numbers, or struggling in the league, it's just the natural expiration of a loan period.

I don't think he will start, but I do expect to see him at some point during this game.

At the same time that Kent´s loan got chopped, Sergi Canos´loan at Brentford was extended to last the season. These things will go through individual halfway assessments.
Klopp said what he said, probably before he had had much time to reflect on the u21s league. It is likely that he could come to toe the party line of LFC more as he gets up to date with the u21s league setup..

Paul Joyce, who first broke the news of Kent´s recall, is one of the most trusted journos when it comes to news on LFC. Along with Tony Barrett and a couple of others. The Express is usually shit when it comes to transfer news and the like, but when Joyce speaks up, you listen. First in England with the Firmino news, among other things.

this is what he had to say:
"Now Klopp has personally called for the youngster’s return to Anfield after Coventry face Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
Liverpool could play as many as eight games in January and Kent, who can play on both flanks and as a second striker, will be part of Klopp’s plans."

It is also defo being talked about as an early recall by the Liverpool Echo:

"With injuries mounting for the Reds - Jordan Henderson the latest - the return of Kent, who turned 19 in November, will provide the manager with further options as Liverpool fight through a spell of seven games in January.
The ECHO understands Kent was contacted by Liverpool yesterday for discussions with the possibility of a recall four months after his loan to Coventry, although nothing was officially confirmed. The recall echoes that of Jordon Ibe from Derby 12 months ago and the Oldham-born youngster - he has been at the Academy since the age of seven – will hope to make a similar impact to his fellow winger.
It marks a huge change in fortunes for Kent in the last 12 months as he started the year injured for the first quarter of the year with a back problem before returning to the U21s in March."

I do see where Klopp is coming from as in playing all the youth players together in u21s so they move up together. Like Germany did over the last so many years, and eventually won the world cup.

However, I don't see how u21's is more beneficial than playing men's football.

Time will tell I guess, and possibly every club will follow Klopp's idea?

Also, I don't see Kent being an influential player for Liverpool this season. Maybe in 2-3 seasons time. I think he's too raw for premier league football at the minute.

The big difference is how German and Spanish sides (and I don´t know which other countries?) have their B-sides in the professional league system. Like Real Madrid Castilla, Dortmund 2, etc.
If the so called big clubs in England got it how they wanted, it would be likely to see several English clubs with great traditions pushed out of the league system to accomodate Liverpool B, Utd B in League 2. For example. This is where Klopp´s vision of the loan system fails to work with how he´s worked in Germany so far..

Excellent point and this phenomena is given lots of coverage in Chris Andersen's book (recommeded read by the way). People tend to pay more attention to things that DO happen rather than things that DON'T happen whereas they are equally relevant, and this skews their thinking.

If Klopp thinks Kent is ready for first team football in the Premier League then he simply cannot have seen the lad play for us.

He's so raw and not even a first choice for us every week in the League One, let alone ready for starts in a league that's two divisions higher!

Inglethorpe may have arranged the loans in the first instance but it is Klopp that people are quoting as being against the loan system. If you take that through to its logical conclusion they will stop sending players out on loan so the question remains. What will they do with all the extra players?

recalled to become an impact player in a packed January schedule.

Is he being recalled early, in which case according to FL regulations Liverpool will have to pay us compensation, or is his loan not being renewed? If it's the later his loan doesn't expire until 16th January. The remaining January games then are Man United, Norwich away a week later and a League Cup semi final second leg. Not sure that's when you want to be throwing him into the first team.

Totally agree Otis, he is nowhere near ready for PL football. If Klopp, or anyone else from Liverpool, has been watching him and thinks he is their fans should be concerned about their judgement!

In short, Klopp came in from a different cultural background where the kids play in a B side in the league system.
He made some early pronouncements on the loan system, and AFTER this, Sergi Canos´ loan has just been extended at Brentford.
There is just no way that Klopp can abolish the loans entirely.
Take a player such as Allan, bought this summer at 18 as an investment from Brazil. Can´t get a work permit in UK yet. Went to Finland on loan, will go on loan to Belgium/Holland this January as he waits for a work permit.

As I said earlier in the thread, LFC to an extent speculatively shop from UK and abroad, some times purely as a money making exercise. It´s a game based on buying cheap, building value and selling later on. Loans are used to farm players, like Chelsea´s mad situation at Vitesse in Holland.

then you have the loans where young kids who are looked at long term for the Liverpool first team will reach a plateau in the u21s, and need to face professionals in England.

Klopp could get a total revamp in his vision of the loan system if it weren´t for the fact that the English situation is different to the continental one.
There is no Liverpool B in League 2. There´s a new batch of players coming up from the U18s next season that will be looking to go out on loan. With the u21s league how it is operating now, it´s just not helpful to keep these kids in house. Why play 25 games in the U21s when they could compete for 46 in the league system?

And on what you said about 16 January, it´s been said by Chris Bascombe (Telegraph), among others, that it is a recall, and that he´ll be in contention for cup games. That means Stoke, Exeter and Augsburg in the Europa.
