Ricoh won't be used for up and coming Rugby World Cup, I was under the impression it was a dead certainty.... King Power and Stadium:MK are selected though, as is AMEX!

Bad for the City of Coventry, but maybe good for CCFC.

I was looking forward to watching 2015 RWC in Coventry, oh well, I was planning to watch England and get local tickets anyway.

Would only been for a couple of non-descript games Fiji v Tonga or Romania something like that. They are using the Olympic Stadium, Wembley and Twickenham in London and the Millenium Stadium in Wales so that's where the big games will be.
Anyway we don't want our pitch churned up by the egg chasers do we it will mess up our free-flowing football.

Oh how different the tune being played would have been if the Ricoh had got it..

Not from me, why should it, a couple of low key rugger games can go to the Butts Arena for that. Anyway there could be plenty of Rugby games at the Ricoh soon enough

Why do you pretend to be in the know when you clearly know nothing.

If they had got a few games you and the usual suspects would have flooded this thread with gloats that ACL don't need the club.

The silence is deafining.

Probably is.

ACL, no doubt, have had to inform the RWC organisers that there is no guarantee that there will be a pitch/stadium there in two years time.
Bwahahahahahahaha!!!

People do keep banging on about the Ricoh getting big Rugby games though, had a couple of Heineken Cup semi-finals here, but last one was 5 years ago, so hardly regular income.

Seem to get people in briefly, never to be seen again.

Not bothered either way, but as the Ricoh is banded around by ACL as this all singing all dancing facility it must be a right kick in the B.....ks for them.
OR did they request any potential profit up front !!

I'm not bothered either way. But really, another nail in the ACL "we don't need 'em" coffin.

Both sides need each other.

Losing any event is bad news for the City of Coventry. There is more to life than this little squabble with the hedge fund.

There is, but the certainty that some have of the Ricoh getting these big events means that the Arena can survive perfectly well, even better without the club is shown to be a fallacy.

If ACL are in financial trouble, you will see a number of bidders fighting for control of the complex.

People thinking it will become a white elephant are deluded. Remember why the likes of SISU are hell bent on getting there meat hooks on it?? and the same with PH4 for that matter

Saying the stadium is a failure without a club is all a clever PR by SISU and there supporter.

Believe it or not, the Ricoh is a hot commodity for the right investor and many investors will know that.

Because they missed out on Rugby world cup is not the end of the road for ACL.

I just don't understand the negativity shown by all the posters here. I'm sure they are bidding fore plenty more entertainment contracts out there.

Do you really believe that the Arena is viable without a standing tenant which guarantees at least 23 games a season bringing in a minimum 230,000 people through the doors paying for car parking, food etc?

Think that Compass might think otherwise.

I think we all know that the Arena needs its football club and the football club needs its Arena..........................preferably under one owner..................but not a Mayfair based hedge fund please !!!

Why is it that a thread about the club missing out on being hosts turns into a ACL/SISU debate AGAIN!!

There is clearly a political reason why we were not picked, They did not include the Tigers ground and opted for the Kung Po stadium instead due to capacity reasons but after the big kick off about this issue, it was obvious that the Leicester ground would have been chosen over our own and rightly so. Tigers are one of the biggest teams in the country if not europe so financially you would place games there where the support is.

When the dust settles on this Ricoh saga the Arena will become a multi purpose ground. Football and Rugby exist successfully together in a few grounds don't bury your heads in the sand. infact it is more certain if sisu get control than others. As know all prick lordsummerile says whoever owns, runs the stadium need more income than 23 football matches.

I do like how the Rugby World Cup is just some 'low-key rugger' now it's not coming here. Man alive.

Why so hostile?

Do you think ACL are right then? They do not need a football club at the Ricoh?

Love my Rugby, oity its not in Coventry, will just have to travel to see a few games instead.
Having 30k Rugby fans in the area would have made great business sense.
Pity!

Although I hate rugby, I agree. It would have been good for the City. However, it really underlines the fact that the Ricoh isn't the "money magnet" portrayed by ACL.

They need us as much as we need them. Hopefully sense will prevail and they will both realise that.

Better to have a local owner yes. Like that nice American who bases himself in Russia.

I think its Sweden actually but either way he will be represented no doubt by two Coventry supporters in Hoffman and Elliot....................if it ever comes off of course !

Grendel - Showing utter ignorance AS PER

How difficult is it to understand!

NEC £150 per sqr mt

Pitch ALONE is 105m x 68.

IT works out at £1,071,000 PER EVENT.

But of course YOU are right, the £170 k / yr sisu want to pay cannot be improved upon

Your ignorance is only equalled by your arrogance!

Seeing as you're brilliant with figures. Could you cost your proposal of ACL getting rid of CCFC then putting on a roof and installing heating?

Thanks.

Low key eh..? A quick google search can find the schedule. With Rugby being bigger in Leicester than Coventry think its fair to say they have a right to a game or 2 over Coventry so lets assume we lost out to Villa Park.
Sat 26th South Africa v Samoa, Sun 27th Australia v tba
http://en.rugbyworldcup.com/home/news/newsid=2066509.html#rwc+2015+venues+schedule+announced

I'm sure people will point out its only 2 games over 1 weekend but its better than nothing. Im not a big Union fan, much prefer Rugby League
