A reflection on our approach to the window - I think a lot of the links/signings point to a dual prong strategy for recruitment:

1. We were swinging for the fences and trying to bring some serious experience in through the spine of the team. Openda, RLC, Tomori links representative of that for me.

2. We were willing to splash on a spine of young high potential talent too for resale purposes, but also in the belief they could step up. Cherif, Amenda, Yirenkyi, Tchouana signings all representative of that.

I think with time this season, we will show we have done VERY well with no2. Amenda looks a class above, Yirenkyi is finding his groove, Tchouana is showing promise, and Cherif I just have a good feeling about for now.

As for no1 however, even though I think they will do a great job for us, Awoniyi, Hamer, Pinnock feel like Plan B or even C's after realising our Plan A's and B's weren't materialising.

I think a lot of us grossly underestimate all of the variables at play in the window, with both the domino effect of transfers happening elsewhere interfacing with clubs constantly changing their approach, and agents constantly wheeling and dealing on behalf of players, and players holding out to see their options.

I don't think that is an excuse for our outcome on no1 for what it's worth. As I say, if we get the best out of them think what we got will be fantastic. But whether it's enough magic dust to give us a great shot at staying up remains to be seen.

For me all that matters now is trying to enjoy the football. I have ZERO expectations. The only reason I don't want us to get relegated is because I am dreading the "We are Back" memes being repurposed

Whatever happens our club is in a new era. We will continue to make progress, which doesn't always look like riding high in the top league. I can't wait for that first mega standout performance of the season, the one where we go "maybe this isn't so bleak..." and the fire of optimism lights inside us.

Definitely think that needs to be the midfield two for the physicality. Obviously we’ll be starting EMC but Tchouna needs to be starting for same reason, so much more physical that Tats.

A fair and balanced take. Agree with others as well - that our self-imposed restrictions on personal terms made 1 pretty hard to pull off. I think it's also likely because everyone is fickle and recency-biased that losing your first 2 games before the window makes you a less attractive move!

I never expected a great deal from us in this window, I in fact expected us to spend considerably less. I'm pleased this window is done and we know what we're dealing with. Time for the coaches & players to really get to work and step up to this league. For us fans, we need to be patient and supportive - there's literally nothing useful about continuing to complain & moan about the transfers during the season.
