And it was pissing it down.It was so surreal having drinks in a lovely country pub before the game. Just felt so not like an away day.
The hill was such a killer too.

weirdly i was at all of these..... that swindon game - was it aaron phillips giving a penalty away after we'd scored first, and we drew 2-2? I've seen us blow a few games at Swindon actually. If you remember the rebound off Joe Murphy from McSheffrey's shot at fucking freezing Scunthorpe
If you remember getting soaked at Swindon and losing 2 goals in the last 6 mins
If you remember singing 'how shit must you be, the Arsenal scored 6'. at White Hart Lane
Hope you put a claim in!If you went to Wycombe away on a Wednesday night in League 1 when it was absolutely baltic to see an appalling game of football. When I got back to the car it was -13 and before I had gone 2 miles hit a pot hole and had a blow out. Had to wait 2 hours for the AA to turn up and tow me home.
Yep the wife and I went to that game because Wycombe were the local FL team to where we lived at the time. McNulty getting the winner was a great moment but it put her off away games for lifeIf you went to Wycombe away on a Wednesday night in League 1 when it was absolutely baltic to see an appalling game of football. I was there at Blackpool. And - if you stood in the open away end at Blackpool in the league cup in 1997, losing 1-0 and getting absolutely soaked in torrential rain that never stopped. We drove home to Northumberland in our underwear that night….. Similar, a defeat at Bristol Rovers in the pouring rain…..
I remember a season or two before we conceded a FK in our own box by playing it back to Westwood and him picking it up.If, like me you went to Palace away right at the start of the 2011/12 relegation season
Dad took me as it was still school 6 weeks holiday, winning 1-0 as the board went up for added time and we ended up losing 2-1
Yep, every two or three minutes a City fan would leave the uncovered end run across the corner of the pitch to the covered stand, dodging the stewards who were trying to stop them. Wettest I’ve ever been.I was there at Blackpool.
Left Stoke on Trent where I lived at the time it was a lovely sunny day dressed in shorts and t shirt.
Weather changed and I believe the wind speed was just short of 2/3 mph before ko that the game would have been postponed such was the state of Bloomfield Road at the time
Half of our fans were under cover and the rest including me in the open end behind the goal with some trying to run across the pitch to get into the covered end with stewards slipping and sliding trying to prevent them.
I was piss wet through and drove home stripped down to a pair of soaking boxer shorts.
Me and my mate were on the Kop for that too (but thankfully didn't contract Meningitis). Not only fog but raining and was when Billing got sent off quite early in the game.Zenith Data cup Nov 1989 vs Wimbledon lost 3-1 freezing fog and went to extra time 3,781 in attendance-stood on the Kop and then caught meningitis the following week - Trevor peake came to visit me in hospital though
Truly the definition of a stalwart, considered over all others!Yep, every two or three minutes a City fan would leave the uncovered end run across the corner of the pitch to the covered stand, dodging the stewards who were trying to stop them. Wettest I’ve ever been.
McSheffery, came off his knee, adjudged to have played the backpass!!! v Palace, the wankers.I remember a season or two before we conceded a FK in our own box by playing it back to Westwood and him picking it up.
I think Zaha scored.
We were just a general joke around that era.
WHO????????How about a ticket for those who saw that stellar signing Tommy Langley score.
I went on the official coaches to the MK hockey stadium game and the weather was ok up here!MKDons away but they were playing in a hockey stadium that season, Suffo got one. Temp stands, arctic temperatures and a sparcely populated away end. To whoever scored the last goal midway through 2nd half sorry because i didn't celebrate as hands were too painfully cold to take out of pockets.
At HR early championship days and being in the west terrace against some grim northern town probably beginning with B. Woman walks past from away end. some degenerates- same as every week: "get your tits out for the lads" but she actually does, huge cheers. she does it again, more cheers, she goes to sit with her boyfriend who, despite being miles away from me, looked absolutely pissed off. *
* please someone else confirm this was true as i'm worried my mind has just invented this![]()
The Chelsea connection again? How about a ticket for those who saw that stellar signing Tommy Langley score.
I'm pretty sure he never scored for us, I saw him play and he was not very good. How about a ticket for those who saw that stellar signing Tommy Langley score.
Can't confirm the second part, but remember the hockey stadium. That was when they first relocated from Wimbledon and still had some of the players. Was a very strange set up.MKDons away but they were playing in a hockey stadium that season, Suffo got one. Temp stands, arctic temperatures and a sparcely populated away end. One of our undisputed worst signings of all time.WHO????????
I think for some reason I remember his fee being £350k from United although I could have made that up. He was on the team photos but a little before my time of being a regular. One of our undisputed worst signings of all time.
See also Gary Collier.
He didn’t and wasn’t. I think he buggerd off to Greece for a holiday mid contractI'm pretty sure he never scored for us, I saw him play and he was not very good.
Those 54 deserve a ticket. If you can remember Alan Marsden who frequented the West terrace in the mid 1980's.
OR
You were one of the 54 on a freezing night at Ayresome Park in 1989 for a Simod Cup defeat 4 days after Sutton.
Agree with all of that MK bit, although thought we took a decent following that day. Don't remember many gaps. Was bloody freezing though. Gary Collier from Bristol was an expensive signing for the time.I think for some reason I remember his fee being £350k from United although I could have made that up. He was on the team photos but a little before my time of being a regular.
We've had a few though. Kevin Drinkell, Sandy Robertson, Kevin Kyle, Yakubu, Julian Darby, Brad Collins are a few that spring to mind.
Some utter dross in L1/L2 too, but I think that's forgivable with where we were at.
Langley left Chelsea in 1980 & played for QPR, Palace & AEK Athens before he joined us at the end of 83/84 season.Gary Collier from Bristol was an expensive signing for the time.
Langley we signed from Chelsea.
I was at AFC Wimbledon in the week leading up to the FL trophy final and witnessed Yakubu's debut - It was stellar compared to the two previously mentioned.
