Huh?

There will be non-STHs with accounts who have, say, c600 points and others with zero points. By making it a free for all there will be fans with 600 points who missed out and some with zero that didn't.

I don't understand your point.
Won't quite be zero as have to have purchase history, but there will definitely be people who had season tickets in the last couple of years who couldn't for whatever this season that will have 100s of points, and then someone who went to just two matches this season if they happened to be online at the right time will have got one.

There will be many at the match who possibly could be considered fortunate ,1-off neutral supporter types , possibly some in hosp' who fancy a football & beverage occasion & there will be some who "deserve to be there say non season tkt holders who never the less have supported the City for yonks.

All is fair in love & war.

Not if they used the points system (excluding STHs who already have their match ticket).

FFS I'm pulling my hair out now so walking away before I give myself a heart attack!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The points system is for away games- you cant just change the rules for it .
And if you did there were probably less than 5000 tickets available which would mean starting it at somewhere around the 1200 points mark- surely all these people are ST holders anyway so you then exclude them? A bit ridiculous .

You would just put it at 50 or 100.

50 was what was put on for the Man Utd semi final I believe after season ticket holders.

The way they did it was a bit naff.

Someone who’d been to a single game in 2018 but happened to be checking Facebook/Twitter etc at 11am had a better chance of getting a ticket than people who’ve been to multiple matches this season but were at work/unaware for whatever reason.

I think they probably should have announced it a day or two in advance, and put points thresholds at first (maybe start at 500, then 200, 100, then purchase history).

Season ticket holder so home games are not a problem. Personally think using points system would be a terrible idea for home game tickets, ok for away games tho.
How on earth could a new generation of fans ever get home tickets . They ve got to start somewhere.

It's one game? People have had the last 5 seasons to go to championship matches where there would have been no restrictions.

Quite clearly this game was going to be considered special by fans and so the demand massively increased. I would expect next season they do end up making some changes anyway.

They don’t have to start with us lifting the championship trophy though do they 🤣

No one is suggesting points for other home games

But that was after ST holders got 2 each. I know what I think but I would imagine Doug values a ST holder getting an extra ticket more than offering it instead to someone who has possibly been to 1 or 2 away games over the last couple of years.

They could have capped it though so people couldn’t buy anymore than one extra ticket etc.

Managed to get tickets thanks mainly to @Tuma's heads up here, I was watching the thread and ticketing site just before but their message made sure I paid attention at ~11:00 and was in right away.

Club could certainly have given everyone more notice / clarity and it would have been fairer to introduce points thresholds.

I think it was one 1 for the FA Cup Semi, 2 for Play Off Final.

So I think that would have left about 16000 tickets starting at 50 points. And they didn't even all go without then offering additional tickets to people over 1300+ I believe.

How do other clubs sell matchday tickets that sell out all the time ?

It would be some kind of paid membership scheme - I think some do that for away tickets as well

I have experience of Bournemouth (AKA 'AFC Drawmouth') system:

There are 3 points categories per supporter (Home, Away, Cup). You gain one point in the relevant category each time you attend a match. Points carry over to the next season, but only for one season (so the maximum home or away points someone can have is 38 - i.e. 2 x 19 matches).

Tickets go on sale in stages, with 'maximum' points holders first, with further drops every couple of days to lower points holders.

You can only buy a ticket yourself, or for someone else, if you/they have the correct number of points.

In reality this means that 'loyalty' is rewarded (which is good), but as home tickets never really drop below about 10 point mark, this means that a whole generation of kids have not been able to get a home league ticket at all (for past 10 years or so) - which is obviously bad.

Capacity is just over 11,000 - with 1300 for away supporters, and approx 7,000 season tickets. So mad scramble for remaining 3000 tickets.

Currently there is no paid membership scheme.

EDIT: Season ticket holders have no 'advantage' with away tickets. The system works in the same way as for home tickets, with the 'maximum' away points at any time being 38 (reset to 19 at the start of the following season). Much easier to get an away ticket than a home ticket, and indeed many fans are effectively 'away only'.

In the end there is no easy solution when demand outstrips supply which it clearly will in this instance - some people will always be disappointed

It will be interesting if the season ticket numbers are frozen next year or get increased and matchday price strategy

Match day tickets will be at least £60.

From my point of view, it was more the 'no notice' of when they were going on sale. I've checked every morning waiting for them to go on sale.

Then yesterday I was in meetings from 10am-2pm so totally missed out. Had I know they'd be going on sale at 11am, I'd of ensured my step-dad or one of you lot got me one.

That's the only thing I'm a bit peeved about.

Just hoping someone ends up having a spare or I can get one on the exchange.

Purchase history since 16/17. If they haven't attended a game since 22/23 (or whenever the rolling period cut off is) they won't have any points.

Indeed a fair approach would have been (due to there only being ~5k tickets for general sale) to introduce a points threshold and not allow season ticket holders to purchase more. And publicise the sale details well in advance so everyone had time to get their support number & network(s) etc in order.

That said, we're all surely pretty well versed in the system given the big games over the last few years. The main thing is it does feel unfair with such a small allocation to give it to anyone with a purchase history including season ticket holders who already of course have a ticket.

Where's the cut off though with anyone with a purchase history? I managed 3-5 games a season.

I've done 3 aways so far this season, Pompey (albeit a home gig for me), QPR and Millwall and then Watford at home. Pompey at home will be my 5th of the season.

I know I don't got as much as other non-season ticket holders but opening up to those with a purchase history does seem fair.

Totally agree on publicising release date/time though. That's what's scuppered it for me.

I think depends on how many tickets we have to sell and once you exclude season ticket holders, what the spread of points is like among the user base. We've done this a few times now for games where we have huge allocations to sell, so we have good data and some idea of conversion rate etc.

Given how much the club operations have improved, this one feels like something that was not well thought out and rushed. It sold out in seconds and a tonne of people who likely have very large amounts of points but no ticket missed out, many of whom had no idea when it was going on sale.

I think it’s OK as it is. A season ticket yields 190 pts next season.

I still missed out on 70% of all games this season (Above 1200 pts).
Fair chance I’ll only manage to get tickets for 2 or 3 away games next season as I don’t have enough points/ allocations about 3000.

My only bugbear with the system is that some with enough points just sell tickets on if they don’t go for any reason. They don’t sell the points on of course.

I'm glad someone has pointed this out as this seems to have increasingly happened over the season. I suspect that if the tickets for this game had been sold on a staggered points basis, then there would have been plenty of cases of people with enough points buying for mates who don't, which doesn't end up being any fairer. In my opinion it would also have been wrong to change the means of selling home tickets for a single game, when they haven't done so for any other games earlier in the season.

On a separate note away from tickets, any thoughts what DK may have lined up on the day ? I thought the Enemy's performance before the blunts game was a sort of test event for post Wrexham celebrations, would be great to get them to do a couple of songs once the trophy has been lifted

These are the away allocations I can see given for each team this season.

Arsenal - 3003
Aston Villa - 3000
Bournemouth - 1307
Brentford - 1725
Brighton - 3002
Burnley - 2600
Chelsea - 3083
Crystal Palace - 2687
Everton - 3001
Fulham - 2701
Leeds - 2916
Liverpool - 3058
Man City - 3065
Man United - 3099
Newcastle - 3214
Nottingham Forest - 3048
Sunderland - 3110
Tottenham - 3038
West Ham - 3001
Wolves - 3010

Anyone on lower than 1400 wont have a fucking prayer of attending an away game next season which is a shame
