Hope springs eternal. Frank the Tank might be the last throw of the dice, but let's give it a go. Believe.
Exactly.

New Frank The Tank, but same old shit and I will be the first to concede.

We surely have to play better with him in the team haven't we?

We bought him to improve us. Let's see what a difference he can make.

4points clear of boro come end of the game next monday 🙏🙏

Sadly I think it's more likely that we will lose and be five points behind them.

Our goal difference advantage over Middlesbrough and Ipswich has been seriously eroded in recent weeks. It is likely that at some point in the coming weeks they will have a better goal difference than us.

I think we will make the playoffs but I reckon we will only be fifth or sixth.

☹️

This. Writing off our chances of promotion, let alone going up automatically or, God forbid, actually winning the league from our current position is defeatist by definition. I'm having none of it until it's inevitable, and it's a long way from that.

Our form is horrendous though....
And has been for longer than we were good at the start of the season....
The blips are when we've won the odd game!

We've had enough goes at turning it around....
We haven't been able to do it!

All true, but the opportunity is still there. Do people think that Onyeka will make no difference?

It’s not defeatist. There’s being positive and there’s being negative. Objectively, however, if you watch the performances of the last two months, there’s nothing to suggest we are getting promoted. It’s just calling what is in front of our eyes.

Boro are having the same sort of run we had at the start of the season…. Will they sustain it ? Who knows but it’s still all to play for …

They might not sustain it, but I'll guarantee you they won't drop off to the extent we have.

Can we find our form and take advantage? I'd be grateful if someone could give me a good reason to have hope that we will that goes beyond 'its in our hands' or'Leicester did it'.

We don’t need a 13 point drop off though do we. They are only 2 points ahead of us.

Leicester didn’t even do it, it’s a complete myth. They never dropped off top spot and never dropped below 2ppg.

Fair enough, that’s weird, TransferMarkt has them as top the whole season. I looked it up last night.
I do vividly remember them having a major wobble and dropping out of the Top 2 as there was a lot of talk at the time of us potentially sneaking into 6th and playing them in the Play-Offs - One of those games they lost away at Plymouth and their fans booed them off as they thought they had blown it

The fact they lost half of their last 14 games and won the league is something to grab onto I guess

I don’t think the two situations are compatible though

Edit: just figured out why, Leicester had a game in hand when they dropped to 3rd. They never dropped below 1st with equal games played.

Phew! Pulled one out the bag there. Nice one.

It's desperate to pin our hopes on something Leicester did anyway, really scraping the barrel.

While saying it's "ended" at the beginning of February is rational.

I haven't said its ended. Though there is a rationale behind it based on the huge downward trajectory of the last 3 months which is far more compelling as evidence than something a parachute team did a few years ago.

No one's pinning their hopes on it, just pointing out that it happened.

While ignoring the far more compelling evidence of our away form for the last 3 months.

I keep saying it, but I really want someone to give me something tangible to hold on to, but no one can, and something Leicester did isn't cutting it

I believe in optimism, no way are we a bottom 7 side like our last 13 games have us on current form. It has to turn round especially if Lampard gets our away form back although last year at Derby, Norwich, Hull, Luton and Plymouth we were woeful

I'm not fully convinced we'll finish in the top 2, but we are still in with a very good chance - there are still plenty of games left to play and 'Boro and Ipswich still have to play each other. We need to pull our finger out if we're going to do it and that starts with winning next Monday.

You have to believe that Frank will rediscover the spark that had us on fire earlier in the season. It's a fifteen game mini-league and we're in second place. Let's give it a go.

Let's see what FTT can add.

Or are we writing him off too?

1 player CAN change a team's fortunes. We have been crying out for a player like him and so many people have been saying it's been down to tactics as to why we have been struggling so much.

We are not going to play exactly the same way with Onyeka in the side are we. There should be less holes and he can win the ball back for us

I don't know whether he IS the answer, but can't we at least give him a chance?

It desperately needs to turn, but the only possible catalyst Icansee for that is Onyeka. I don't see anything else that suggests a resurgence.

Pinning our hopes on player who hasn't played and who msny of us have probably never seen play just shows how desperate the situation is

Not our 8th highest transfer fee of all time??

Never said it was you. 'My' rationale is based on the title of this thread and multiple others.

No problem with blind optimism, I'm normally far more positive than my current mood. Fair play to anyone that's glass half full.

It's just people trying to sell it with bollocks like 'Leicester did it' and 'its in our hands', its just straw clutching bollocks
