Don't be so thirsty! But since you're so keen:

1. We quite clearly need to strategise for future windows, we're not Ridsdale-era Leeds
2. Sunderland offloading him is a strong indicator that he's not up to scratch in the PL. Personally I also aspire to be better than West Ham (who are currently 18th)
3. "Who is it to say it will eat into the budget next season" - the bank manager, probably?

Because his wages and transfer fee would be a non-trivial amount and I would rather that every available £ (and squad position) go towards a player we are more confident can perform to the required standard in the PL.

We aren’t in the PL though. Dropping 6 million for example on a player that is going to help seal promotion is a drop in the ocean compared to the riches we will have if we get promoted

1) If we sign a player now its because it wouldnt impact a future window
2) You do realise Sunderland are in 10th?
3) The bank manager will not manage the budget

So you only want to sign premier league level players before we actually get there?

Well its pretty pointless paying a fee (probably a good few million) and giving probably a 3 or 4 year deal for a player that will be redundant in 4 months time if and when we get promoted! He'll be great to help us get out of this league, but to buy him on a 4 month deal wont be an option. And if he isnt good enough for Sunderland in the PL now, then he wont have improved in 6 months of sitting on the bench to be good enough for us.

I get the argument, but it's also a surefire route to creating the kind of Championship super-team that we've seen time and time again have no chance of surviving after promotion.

Jesus there are somethings that are just facts. If you award someone a multi yr contract today it impacts your future playing budget. It’s not rocket science ….

The reality of the January window is nobody wants to jeopardise their season by letting their best players go. Imagine if someone come in for EMC or MVE now, we’d all be saying they are absolutely not for sale.

He’s worried about building a championship super team for the premier league when in reality we only need one or two quality additions to get us out of the league we are in. Should we win promotion most of the squad will need rebuilding anyway
