What would you do if you saw the Lampard interview I referenced from September?
Would you stink the place out for 3 months between that been published and that stupid video being uploaded?
Come on he hasn't done it deliberately. He actually looked good coming back from injury, and it seemed like he was likely to start scoring again.

In the most recent games he's just looked like what he is, a player now lacking confidence and burdened by his own goal drought. It is embarrassing that people immediately assume these things to be about character.

The irony is that while everybody goes on about "this wouldn't happen with Gyokeres" it actually is happening with him too currently.

Gyokeres also went 14 games without scoring for us

I haven't said he's done it deliberately.
But whatever is going on he needs to sort it.
It's ridiculous that people are trying to excuse him and say they don't blame him for downing tools because of a shite video that was only posted 2 or 3 days ago.

For me the crux of it is this, if he regains his early season form we'll almost certainly go up. That's a big prize to stake on his fragile ego/mental state whatever it is that's troubling him

I wouldn't say he's stunk the place out. None of us know what's going on behind the scenes, what's going on in his life etc.

If he has problems of the pitch then of course he deserves every sympathy. It would be pretty poor management however to keep putting him in the firing line and under pressure

We've got a great chance to get autos, I'm not prepared to make excuses for him again.

Much like the playoff matches, it was OK because he did well earlier in the season.

There will be people saying he is in top 10 goalscorers or he scored earlier on in the season so it's OK if he does nothing for the next 10 games.

No. I don't know what's going on with him but he needs to sort it out.
I can't believe people are happy to accept it given what's at stake.n
If you don't think he's doing it on purpose surely it is more a problem that Lampard and the staff need to solve with team selection, man management and coaching?

Sometimes you've got to help yourself.
The lack of aggression from him at times (including Saturday) is baffling.

No one has actually said that.

Really? Look at your comment. You wouldn't blame him for saying fuck these lot if he saw that video.

We've got a very rare chance of autos and you don't mind our striker saying fuck this lot because of one shite video posted by a fucking simpleton.
That's quite incredible. I'd rather he displayed some balls and said I'll show the fucking idiot.

Don't think it's baffling at all really.

To me, Haji's loss of form is just a double whammy of the team performing worse as a whole, so we're creating less chances, and he has missed a few chances, so his confidence is on the floor. I really think it would pick up again with a goal or two (and he's been quite unlucky not to get one, disallowed goal at Preston, multiple pens not given, inches away at Stoke etc.).

I don't really get the vitriol directed at him for it because as of right now it is the exception, not the rule.

We have a manager who by and large 'gets' this group much better than his predecessor and has tried his damnedest to give Wright the confidence he clearly needs to perform. That will matter far more than whatever an idiot posts on the internet.

The bottom line is whatever the reason, he's being carried by his teammates currently.

I don't buy the not creating enough chance argument.
Certainly not for October and November, we were still scoring and creating.
December things did start to dry up.

I don't get the vitriol, I'm not being vitriolic, I just want him to get back to doing what's he's paid for so we can get promoted.

I think you're taking an overly simplistic view on it really

Gyokeres also went 14 games without scoring for us

I remember his last really good game for us was QPR away. Remember it clearly as it was the day before my lad's birthday and going was one of his "treats". He was pretty ineffectual after that. Remember his missing a hatful of chances vs Blues at the CBS.

Well whatever going on with him could well be quite complex, I wouldnt be privvy to that, but the bottom line is, looking at it with my supporters head on, he hasn't scored for 3 months.

Yes I get that

As I said, I think the right thing for everyone involved now is to give Simms a decent run of starts in the team, which he's earned, and Wright will have to play his way back in from the bench.

It’s not a single video though, is it? It’s not like a barren spell here is the end of his career either.

if an international professional athlete was making decisions about their career and level of effort based on social media brain rot then they'd be showing why they haven't played at a higher level.

I'm confident Haji is better than that. I expect he's dealt with worse throughout his career, probably incl. overt racism since he was a kid. None of this means it's wrong to question his output or performance.

The support for Wright inside the stadium and at matches has been brilliant and better than he deserves.

Its not even the goals, its his workrate and desire to give everything for the shirt. He the 2nd most offside player in the league because he cant be arsed to run back onside, he strolls around messing with his shirt and his socks all the time.

The bloke is on 20k a week not giving a toss and the heroes on here want to wrap their arms around him like mother Theresa.

Its a forum, a place to say what you think and not what is politically correct. You can keep your woke stuff for the stadium.

Each game goes by without a goal will shrink his confidence a little bit more. He could’ve taken confidence from hitting the post on Saturday, or it could’ve drained him further with it being from point blank.

I wouldn’t like walking out of the tunnel with little hope and constantly increased pressure either, he must be feeling pretty shit.

Bloody annoying isn't it

I was reading an article on the BBC news site yesterday and they talked about "fomenting unrest" and I was so irked. It's bloody "formenting," not "fomenting!!!" I thought "how could they get something so simple, so wrong."

Told my missus about it and she was annoyed too

But I looked it up, just as a double check and I find my entire life has been a lie.

I have spent 60+ years saying "formenting" (yeah, it was even one of my favourite words at infant school) and it IS actually "fomenting."

I became an empty shell for several hours.

Wondered why everyone was laughing at me when I said I was formenting a plan to get back at my parents, on my 18th birthday.

Grrrrr

I bet you were foaming from the mouth Otis. 🤣

Fair enough. One other point I would add, in this thread people have mentioned barren runs from our strikers in previous seasons, but aren't expectations different now?

Do we not require a different level of consistency (from the whole team not just Wright) to get into the autos rather than trying to scrape into 5th or 6th?

Being top is great but doesn't it bring that pressure with it?

Firstly, I think you're a prick simply because you actually use the word "woke", i.e. not being a racist c**t.

Secondly, the laughable chesnut of him "not giving a toss" or being "lazy", etc etc. I'm never surprised at games when I'm surrounded by grown adults with the thought capacity of a seven-year-old screaming he's "shit" or "lazy" because he didn't win a ball or gives the ball away.
