25/26 January Transfer Window (39 Viewers)

Its such a dodgy window in that most players would be happy to join us but are we recruiting to see us over the line or with a view to them playing in the prem? If its both, its going to be a far trickier window. I personally think Loans are the way to go before we spunk 100 million in the summer 😜

It would need to be an eye watering amount for any of our first choice XI (except for Rushworth) to go next month.

What do you think would be an acceptable amount? Couldnt see doug rejecting 10-12 mil

I could. No-one is for sale when you’re top of the league like we are.

Id hope so, but then we do have a 5 million replacement. Purely playing devils advocate here as i wouldnt accept any bid

Agree, i'd just stick with what we've got at LB then buy a real obvious improvement in the summer.
I think the same argument applies to people who think we need more backup options at CM. Just don’t see the point if they’re going to be dead weight in the PL next season.

The one position where we really do need an extra body or two is up front/out wide - think we either go for a high-ceiling prospect, a loan, or an old head on a short term deal a la Bamford/Paterson.

Promotion is worth far more than that and this team's success has been built on being exceptionally well drilled and cohesive. You take out one of the first names on the team sheet and it could be very disruptive.

Given the above context I wouldn't consider anything below £25 mill

Also, when Brentford get involved with anyone under 25, you know theyre decent.

You'd have to ask for anything over £20m at this point in time. He is one of the ones who could step up next year.

I don’t know why we’d sign someone in January who’d then need to be upgraded on again six months later.

Everyone will need to be upgraded on, including Dasilva. The aim is to make sure we get the chance to do the upgrading.

Thomas wouldn't want to go and FL wouldn't want him to, so it would be a Doug decision. The great thing is, if Thomas, or anyone else left, they wouldn't be replaced by Div 1 players, so, if Thomas left possibly Hughes would come in. However, the way Thomas is playing Brentford would be a sideway move, not counting finances.

I certainly could. As of right now, any of our first team starters probably should be sold for anything less than £20m. To be clear, that doesn't mean that's what they're worth, it's just that any disruption to this team is not worth risking a promotion worth comfortably £100m to us.

We're not selling anyone of note this window, all of our players are under longer term contracts and there's no reason to sell.

Outgoing I could see maybe see happening; Bidwell, Brau, Lati. Outside of that, we're talking loans for the likes of Andrews and Perry if we get 2-3 signings.

You miss my point completely. The very opposite in fact, some people here think that King just has the odd £10m in spare change knocking around. I think people should temper their expectations!

There is money there because we sold Sheaf for £6.5m and were supposedly bigging up to £10-12m for Charlie Hughes as well as trying to sign players like Rak-Sakyi. There's money in the pot to play with and now that we're 10 points clear at the top, we probably could secure a loan with an obligation to buy upon promotion.

I'm optimistic we'll get the signings required to see the job through.

Based on that we made offers of similar in the summer. If you dont want to beleive that then thats your choice.

There's a lot of assumptions in there though. I does look like they had money for Rak-Sakyi and they might well be looking at other options. I never believed that we were going to put 10 or 12m into Hughes without selling MVE and even then I don't believe it, if only because King isn't bloody daft! Even Hughes himself says that they knocked that on the head pretty quickly!

Assumptions, yes and they’re well reasoned. The point is that there’s money to spend and from our resident ITKs, the mood is that we’re going to ‘go for it’ for the transfer market.

The squad isn’t complete and we’re in a position whereby we’re selecting 4-5 defenders to make up a 9 person bench. So we definitely need reinforcements to see out the season.

Who goes then? I think the choice is probably as it was in the summer MVE leaves or we make a small changes. Could be wrong of course but the way I read it King's not cash rich and he's already borrowed big for the stadium.

He's a northern lad and he is among friends, and he is key to FL's system. If we didn't get promoted then Brentford would be an option but for now he wouldn't entertain it. We saw this with Rudoni in the summer he enjoys being around FL and learning and I think the majority feel the same THIS SEASON, maybe not next. Ccfcisparks even you can be wrong sometimes which I know you hesitate to admit it, but I assure you Thomas will not be going to Brentford in January.

No one and we’ve already sold Sheaf for £6.5m. We’re 10 points clear at the top and the bigger risk is actually to do nothing or bean count at this point. If we bottle it this season, we probably have rebuild again because players will want to move up a level.

All in all, you’re probably wrong because we were trying to do deals on deadline day and there’s a recognition that the squad is thin and that will try to be rectified asap.

I don't even know what I'm thinking myself sometimes. It's pure logic, but I do know someone who believes Brau will leave in January to return home. I do not profess to be an ITK but as I knew Jim the gateman with the gammy leg all those years ago as I grew up in wolston and spent many years around Ryton and when my Dad retired he was a regular feature at the training ground, so i'm not completely ignorant, either, however, Thomas is pure logic. The irony of it all is we always use the player's names like they are long lost friends and think we know everything about them.
One final note on this. Rudoni's comments in the summer about spending another year around FL was one of the greatest things to happen to us for many years because other players seem the same.

Yes agreed we’ve timed it well to go up. Can see those we want to keep staying, with the exception of Wright who may want a new challenge

10-12m not a chance. Triple it!

We are going to finish above the Brentford next year.

Brentford need to go back their rightfull place in the football ladder which is league 1 level in terms of actual supporters.

Paid for Woolfie already and the spare gets a young winger. Anyway we'll see. We only need 1.7 per game or something like that for a good chance of the playoffs so there's no compelling business case to spend big just now. If we did that and we were not to make it the losses could be heavy.

The idea that Thomas would have no interest in Brentford is incredibly optimistic.

They would triple his wages, offer him a 4 year deal and his family would be set for life.

I don’t think he is looking to leave but if a very compelling offer gets put to his agent you might see his view change quickly.

So would getting promoted with us… Which is no longer an optimistic hypothetical question, we’ve set ourselves up no whereby failing to get top 2 would be a complete failure.
