He's tried for 3 and failed for whatever reason. People won't be happy though because they'd rather we go out and overpay for a player.

I felt we needed 2 or 3 before we let Binks go, to loose Binks, Bassette on loan, and Sheaf and then only bring one in leaves us a bit light in my opinion, and we’ve struggled with depth for the last few seasons

Without being negative, we are stronger in defence but weaker in Midfield and upfront after today and one of our better youngsters has gone on loan which to be fair he needs but one less player for the bench or injuries.
Austin does have a lot to answer for, and realistically needs replacing for us to push on. The guy failed as a manager and was doing this role at a non league club. Probably a cheap option at the time.
I have faith that King will replace him with someone better as he’s done with other back office areas.
Bonus is if it’s just one still some good free agents about to add some depth.

Are wage bill limitations causing the blockage?

It’s more common sense. If you don’t know for certain you can replace an integral part of your team then you don’t sanction it in any circumstance.

To go out and chance it and lose out (as we seem to do every recent summer transfer deadline day) is poor

It’s why you have a recruitment team, to line up targets. If you don’t get one, you move on. It’s not like we only have 3 targets and couldn’t get them…

Questions have to be asked… the depth isn’t there and nearly all fans can see it. A few injuries or even 3 games in a week and results will suffer. There were 2 lists, one for promotion and one for championship, it must have been written on a napkin. You surely would have a contingency in place for struggling to get deals done. Theres been some great deals from other clubs, even on a free/loan basis. I’d guess Lampard isn’t the happiest at the situation given he’s previously commented on the struggle of a smaller squad.

yeah as overpaying for players etc has never got us in trouble before
The fact you dont see this window as a bit of a shambles and everyone else does doesnt suggest to you to admit you were wrong about this transfer window? Or do you have too much pride?

It does make me wonder how hard it must be to work in football recruitment departments. An entire season, with “a list for the premier league and a list for the championship”. Is the list just one person per position? Fucking hell

We've kept Rudi, Milan and Haji who were all at one stage liked with moves away.

We are down one often injured back up midfielder

We have swapped Binks for a much better CB

We finally have cover at rb

Everyone wants more players but idiots saying we will be lucky to mid table etc are just that idiots
