Albion signing Gilchrist permanently for £1.2m. Good signing.

Boro having Wolves pants down at that price, never seen him any good against us tbh.
Even got sent off last year up there.
Also Hamer must be on someone betters radar !
Completely anecdotal but it feels like a lot of good players don’t play well against us and a lot of shit players have their best game of the season. Ends up with our fans massively over-rating players like Josh Bowler based off one performance 4 years ago etc.

So how much should we be spending on bench players?
If you want better options off the bench than Lati, Collins, Allen, et al, then £2m for an O'Hare isnt a bad deal. Let's face it, we've got 1 of the better starting 11s in the league. Its as and when a player gets injured we start to look threadbare. £2m for proven cover for Rudoni is a steal. If it wasn't O'Hare, let's take that name out of the equation, and we could buy a proven, creative midfielder at this level, that scores and assists regularly, for £2m as cover for Rudoni, there isnt a single person on this forum would say its bad business.

Yeah, but I imagine his salary expectations now would be significantly higher, and probably at a point that would not work for us. Ie. We would never make him our highest earner, and if we did dressing room harmony could shatter.
I don't think he's anything special and certainly no better than Josh Eccles!

I agree, I wouldn’t want him. Just saying his wages would make any deal unlikely.

We need to look forward and not backwards, and therefore I wouldn’t want us spunking a load of cash on Hamer either, even though I absolutely loved him before.

Not that’s realistic anyway but Hamer would instantly make us a better team

You think he'll be anywhere near £30k a week in Poland? At a club that last night only managed a 3-3 draw at home with Hibs? I wouldn't of thought so.

People are still holding a grudge 🤣

I didn’t have a grudge with him when he left (my posting history will back this up).

I just don’t see it as good business spending £2m on someone who we let go on a free 12 months ago when we could spend said £2m strengthening a poison where we actually need strengthening.

Its less to do with O’Hare as a player, more the circumstance and the need for reinforcements in other areas which are needed more.

From a blades source they reckon Hamer off to Leeds. Looks to be a loan deal though which means we get 10% of fuck all. Shit news for us

Yes but in the end someone will buy him - just don’t want him in their team when they turn up to the CBS - and dont want to see him relegated

Norwich fans having a massive head loss over Nunez moving South of the border- lot's of infighting, not happy with the board either. Ipswich of course giving it the full Shelbyville:

Could be proper toxic in the away end when we play Nodge at the CBS if they don't get a result at the weekend, and are then stewing over the international break. Great chance for Frank to lay another curse to rest!

So are you saying we dont need to strengthen the bench? Rudi has a bad injury, then where are we? People are too focused on looking at strengthening the starting 11, and granted, there are areas of that that need strengthening, but its strength in depth where in need of. Cover for Rudoni being a very important position we need.

Ignore the fact we let him go on a free, he's proven, he suits our playing style, he's a ball carrier, can score, can assist, can do Rudoni's job should he get injured. If you can find another player of that calibre, with all those attributes, for £2m or less, id love to know. But Id put money on it, you wont find one.

Even to find his replacement, we dropped down to L1 and STILL spent £5m. If we want to be a serious promotion candidate, a solid starting 11 isn't enough. We need to look at the bench to change games and see better than Allen, Collins, Lati, etc.

And as a "challenging team" we can't rely on bringing in unknowns and building them up. We did that with CoH, we took a chance and built him over time. Did Leeds last season have "improvers" in theor squad? Or did they have proven, quality players on the bench that would easily get in to most championship starting 11s? And this is why the likes of Rapha and Andrews and Brau are limited to cup games and 5 min cameos. Because to win games, we need players to win them. We can't afford to carry passengers. Whether thats on the in the starting 11 or on the bench.

Anyone saying CoH for £2m is bad business is only looking at the fact he left for free. Tale that away, ignore what's gone, and find me a better, more experienced players of his ilk for less? Anyone that doesn't see or understand that is talking utter nonsense imo

Guess that's where Boving comes into the equation, but I wouldn't be averse to giving Sheffield UTD some money for a tried and tested O'Hare.

I obviously didn’t say we don’t need to strengthen the bench.

I can’t explain this any clearer. I personally think we’d be better spending £2m on a position where we need more cover, like CB or LB.

And you talk about the risk of bringing ‘unknowns’. Literally every player we bring in as an unknown.

Im also not a fan of going back.

Like I’ve said numerous times, it’s less about O’Hare per se and more about spending money where we need it more.

If Rudoni gets injured, we ‘could’ play Torp or worst case Allen in that role and Sheaf/Eccles deeper. We’ve got options.

If one of our CBs get injured, we’ve really only got Lati to come in and an injury or suspension proper screws us. That’s where we need to be spending money.

I'm unashamed to admit that I'm actually a fan of the Wrexham TV show - it's really well done and I've actually enjoyed their story and rise.

As a result, I was curious enough to give the Brum amazon prime show a watch and FUCKING CHRIST what an embarrassment. It's trying so so hard to be Wrexham it's ridiculous. God why did I do it to myself.

I've not actually seen the documentary and wouldn't really mind Wrexham as an old club with a loyal fanbase. It's just the American fans that come with the whole thing that grate.

The Sunderland documentary was really good if you've not seen, but that was because you knew they were going down by the end of series one and they were such a shambles. It was brilliant

Having seen the Leicester line up, I'll be extremely surprised if Blues don't get at least a point. Winks dropped to bench for sulking a week ago at PNE, and El Khanoussi apparently spitting his dummy out over a failed move away? Not in squad.

Want red cards, injuries and a draw.

I’m settling down ready to watch Leicester v Birmingham.

I want both teams to lose but, as that’s a tad tricky, I guess a draw might be best for us.

Thinking about it, a mass brawl resulting in both teams getting a points deduction would be good 👍

Or an undiscovered sinkhole breaking out in the middle of the pitch taking both teams, all fans and the stadium with it.
