You can see Bassette has the attributes to become a great player.

Plays with aggression which is something that certain modern strikers lack, and has such a good work rate when pressing. Improve his finishing and ball control and there's no doubt he will be a prem player in a few years time, and hopefully be with us up there!

I'd say he looks a little like Vardy when he was first developing, but I'll leave that to the experts..

I hope you’re right.
I can’t see it myself - his movement into space seems to be in urgent need of development and he was offside far, far too many times in the games he played last season.

I’m not saying he’s a Belgian Andy Morrell but as a fan base we are often impressed with players who run around a lot and can be seen to put in the effort.

Like I say, I really hope you’re right.

Based on his comments Grimes seems absolutely a player Lampard wanted (which went against our transfer policy).

Wouldn't be shocked to hear Lampard pulled rank for him
It doesn't take a lot to work out Grimes was a Lampard signing. We were all about signing younger players who we could make money on. Lampard came in then we spent a few million on Grimes where we most probably won't get a penny back as he was nearly 30.

I wouldn't call it pulling rank. The negotiations took a fair bit of time yet Joe Edwards said in his video that Lampard had several offers yet when we came along they knew we were one of the top Championship sides with very good players. So why did the negotiations take so long?

I'd be very surprised if Lampard didn't have at least a big say on who comes in and who goes out. We don't have anyone with anywhere near the experience of Lampard and Edwards.

Without the unfunny meme I meant

I mean manage to be unfunny in text so I’m not sure it’s the panacea you’re proposing.

'Great' is a bit strong at the moment.

Yes, he has attributes like his aggression and work rate but if often doesn't feel like there's much of a plan with it and wonder how much of a 'footballing brain' he has as it seems to be playing on instincts. He's also offside far too often and like Huckerby it's infuriating when you know they have the pace to not need to be.

Plus as you say there are a number of attributes he needs to improve on such as his finishing (pretty important for a striker) but he has shown glimpses he could come good. He found the U21's a breeze scoring 4 against Brum. A season playing regularly in L1 would do wonders to see exactly where he is.

But I don't see enough to say there's no doubt he'll be a Prem player. He might be but I could also see him fading away and in a few years us saying "you remember that Norman Bassette?". Obviously I hope it's the former but he's got a long way to go yet.

One thing I ask myself was if he'd come through the academy would we be making all these claims of how much talent and potential he has? I don't think we would. He'd just be another youngster with a bit of potential that we hope rather than expect will come good.

Yes I know its FLW but....

Won’t happen but wouldn’t say no. His experience would also help guide Dovin once he’s back, Butland probably wouldn’t mind even going to No.2 once Dovin is completely ready but wouldn’t be in a rush either.

Huckerby was never offside, he was just so quick the Lino assumed he must've been 😉

Disagree that the Grimes signing ‘went against our transfer policy’. The club has tried to add loans and experienced players before we signed Grimes.

This narrative has crept in because since Hamer and Vik went, we needed to rebuild the squad which naturally leads us signing younger players with resale value. Over the summers of 23 and 24, we’ve built a good squad of young players and we need finishing touches and Grimes is one of those. Likewise, we can probably be more open to loans because we’ve got a good squad of contracted players.

We tried to add experience in Robins’ last window here but we were unable to sign Joe Worrall and Alan Browne. With McFadz, Kelly and Godden leaving in 23/24 experience was needed and it showed in 24/25. The Grimes transfer just seemed to be the right place and time to make that move. I’m not sure Grimes joins us had Lampard not joined, it’s a big pull factor imo.

Get Pandur in, if he can guarantee a defiant performance like last season, wonder if we could have him in exchange for Palmer money?

He's got worse over the years from what I can tell.
He's made mistakes and lost his place towards end of season

Had. Few standout games in Europe I think though. Wouldn't be opposed to him coming in if lampard thinks we must have a new keeper

Also think Brewster is worth a shot

And people are writing basette off wayyl too soon

Brewster would be an awful signing, would want too high wages and isn’t consistent enough

I watch every Rangers game and we shouldn't be targeting anyone who can't get into their first team.
Butland was rotten last season, I think Matondo returned to pre season injured again. Tom Lawrence has been mentioned, hard no from me.

I am hoping that there may be a pick up in transfer activity this week if If the squad are now back from Portugal

to be fair he started well and made a few good saves in big matches but he does make loads of mistakes and shots low and to his left are a real weakness

Swindon Town seem like they are going to have a real tasty strike force in League Two.

Just signed a 22 year old who scored 127 goals in 91 appearances in non league, will be interesting to see if he can make the step up

Multiple clubs including Norwich, Sheff Utd, Wolves & Man Utd are monitoring this 18 year old they have called Botan Ameen who can play on the wing, they are looking for close to £1.5m… would rather us take this sort of gamble than gambling on Matondo if he could eventually become a bigger player

Then they have Harry Smith who banged in 15 goals for them last season and Charlie Austin who banged in 12 goals with Ian Holloway managing them
