Why wouldn’t we? We will likely have funds from gyok, wright, and maybe sheaf leaving. That’s without considering van ewijk could leave for significant funds too.

We have no idea when Gyokeres could move in the summer. It could be right at the end or it could be resolved quickly. I suspect it will be the former.

We also have no idea if Sheaf, MVE or Wright will actually move on at all...

Harsh, he wasn't bought to make an immediate impact.
IF his attitude and application is right in training he can improve and still be successful here
It’s a lot of questions marks for a player who reportedly cost a fair whack of money and who pretty much no one expects to contribute at all next season.

I think you were expecting him to be starting games and leading our line. It's quite clear he was a "moneyball" or potential profit type of signing, who it's thought will develop over his contract and turn a profit. At 20 years old, he's got years of development ahead and I'd like to see that start with a loan next season before silly comments like "dire signing" are banded about.

If we'd have signed him before BTA, we wouldnt have signed BTA at all.

Promise David is a striker I would take a look at, playing in Belgium. 23, strong as an ox, likes the physical battle, pace, 21 goals in 39 games in all comps. Just the kind of target man we are looking for I think

He did start games and led the line - very badly, as it turned out.

He reportedly cost similar to BTA, which is ridiculous when you compare both their career track records and their output this season.

Loan him out next season and then it’s 2026/27 at the earliest before he’s ready to contribute. I’d be amazed if he recoups his fee at this point.

Clueless

He's basically a kid who they think could be with the right coaching a very saleable asset. It may take time but no one expected him to be a first team star this season.

Give him a chance to actually develop before you spout nonsense like "dire signing".

Where has it been said he cost the same?

Potentially Bassette cost more.

Ideally I'd like us to line up like this start of next year

New GK
MVE Thomas Kitching NEW LB
Grimes
New number 8 Rudoni
Saka NEW ST EMC

£10m-£15m spent on those 4 positions listed.
Asgaard in that 8 role would be quality him and Rudoni would create so much and kill defences, Asgaard would also track back and do defensive duties too allowing Rudi to keep his free role

That was enforced wasn't it? Interesting to note that the much more costly forwards, Simms & BTA haven't faired much better in terms of goals per mins played etc.

He didn't. And you cant compare the two anyway. BTA's price was for his apparent record over one season? Bassette's lower price was for his potential.

He'll still only be 22 FFS.

He’s a good player but USG are a moneyball team with links to Tony Bloom, we’d have to pay a massive premium for him. USG signed David from a Latvian team I’ve never heard of for 400k. Now if our scouting department is really on it, they’re the deals I‘d love to see.

Call me old fashioned, but if we’re going to spend £2m+ on a player, I’d hope to see some return on that investment before we hit the next US election cycle.

Nah your right let’s completely write off a 20 year old player who’s already got in the Belgium squad because there’s no way he could improve. Give him away for free, it’s not like he’s been linked with premier league clubs because of his potential.

Would like to see a more creative, braver, and faster player competing with Sheaf for the same position.

Nah, I'll just call you clueless once again if that is okay with you?

Love close season. Fag packet numbers time.

In £12-15m:

GK - Free/Cheap - Old head who can play first choice most of next season and mentor Dovin when he’s back
RB - £1m - MvE backup, someone young for when MvE inevitably leaves (if he doesn’t this summer)
LB - Free - Angel Brau
CB - £3m - Someone who can organise the defence, ideally with a bit of pace so we aren’t so reliant on MvE
CM - £3m - Dynamic athletic box to box player
AM - loan/£1m - backup to Rudi, a loan or young prospect is fine
RW - loan/£1m - A more direct pacy player to provide options
ST1 - £5m - A proper number 9, under 25 who we can develop. Probably the most expensive signing
ST2 - Older head who can hold the ball up and get thrown on when we’re one up away
LW - loan/£1m - Similar to the RW, possible even the same player. Loans might be good here too.

Out £19m:
Wilson, Collins - Free/packet of polos
Bidwell - £500k
Binks - £1m
Sheaf - £3m
Allen - £500k
BTA - £2m
Simms - £2m
Wright - £10m
Paterson - released
Bassette, Rapha, various kids - loans

Squad:

GK/Dovin/Bell
MvE/RB
Angel Brau/Dasilva
CB/Thomas/Kitching/Lats
Grimes/Eccles
CM/Torp
Rudoni/AM
Saka/RW
ST/ST
EMC/LW

Would swap Sheaf for Eccles but his injury record…

Squad I can see after players go out the door

GK - Dovin | Wilson
RB - van Ewijk
RCB - Thomas | Latibeaudiere
LCB - Kitching
LB - Dasilva
CDM - Grimes | Torp | Eccles | Andrews
CAM - Rudoni
RW - Sakamoto
ST - Simms | Asante
LW - Mason-Clarke

Which means leaving:
Collins (Free)
Burroughs (Release)
Binks (0.5m-1.5m)
Bidwell (~0.5m)
Sheaf (5m-7.5m)
Allen (Free)
Howley (Release)
Raphael (Loan)
Bassette (Loan)
Obikwu (Loan)
Wright (15m-20m)
Paterson (Free)

This means we need:
GK (x1)
RB (x1)
LCB (x1)
LB (x1)
CDM (x1)
CAM (x1)
RW (x1)
ST (x1)
LW (x1)

looks like a lot but only 3/4 of them would be starters

GK - New
RB - MvE
RCB - Thomas
LCB - New
LB - New
CDM - Torp
CDM - Grimes
RW - Sakamoto
CAM - Rudoni
LW - EMC
ST - New

If all you are getting for Sheaf is £3m you keep him for me.

Is it worth having him and Eccles in the same squad? We need something different in there for me. If he’s happy playing back up to Grimes and can keep fit then fair enough.

For me, Milan is the must keep. He offers a lot defensively, and he got the assist for both goals in the playoffs.

Our first XI isn't far away when all fit and if Wright and Sheaf go.

Dovin
MVE Thomas Kitching JDS
Grimes
Torp Rudoni
Sakamoto Simms EMC

Ideally there you replace JDS, Torp potentially and Simms and its a very good starting XI.

We need to be smarter with our depth.

Lati, Binks, Eccles, Allen, Bidwell, Rapha, BTA must all be upgraded.
We need cover on both wings and at RB.

That for me is 3 premum first choice signings, and then 4-5 quality back up upgrades.

Been looking at strikers who kinda fit the model of young, bigger forwards.

What about Josh Coburn, had a tough season with injuries but young lad, who can develop further and Boro apparently looking to sell?

There won't be the massive turnover people think

We spent 17 million in the last 2 windowss without a big sale

I think we will see a couple of free agents of decent quality, and a loan until we start getting players out the door
So you think the likes of Eccles, Binks, Lati, Allen, BTA, Simms will all stay?
