It really wasn’t quite successful. They failed to reach the group stage of the Champions’ League, failed to win the Dutch league and he fell out with club coaches and players. He resigned before the last game (and before they had secured their champs league spot for the next season) citing a lack of backing.
2nd in the league and won the cup, that's certainly not bad?

I'd see Carsley as a bigger gamble due to lack of experience of league management.
Totally agree, it is a risk for those reasons, however the experience could be resolved with an adequate number two at his side.

There are a lot of things going in his favour that are not necessarily going for others linked to the City job, which could benefit us.

I think it's a pretty big difference that RvN has actually managed a club for a season and been quite successful.

Wasn't all rosy:

"There was also criticism of the play of the 24-time national champions throughout the season. The tension in Eindhoven rose to boiling point in the week after the cup final, as was reported earlier this week via De Telegraaf . Six players allegedly went to the club management behind Van Nistelrooij's back to express their dissatisfaction.

The group of players is said to have had serious doubts about Van Nistelrooy's performance. There was also talk about Van Nistelrooy's troubled relationship with his assistants Ooijer and Rutten. This is said to have had a negative impact on the atmosphere within the team for a long time."

Neither would be my first choice, but I'd be as happy with one as the other, I think they're very similar in profile and experience.

No one said that’s the only reason 🤦‍♂️🤦

It's one though that people keep repeating. Along with "he knows the club", which is nonsense as he was last here over a decade ago, the club is totally different. I don't want him, but it if it was a straight choice between him and Lampard then it would have to be Carsley.

Hopefully neither.

The Dutch equivalent of 'The Barnsley Boys'?

You dont get to be involved with England in any shape or form unless you are decent. His experience with the younger players would be immense. I think he would be a great fit for our model

None of the options are good, let's be truthfully honest.

This whole thing is depressing the fuck out of me.

Genuinely think the fact we've not been in this position for years is making it all a bit strange.

I remember, pre Internet, when we appointed SIllett and Curtis, absolute meltdown, didn't turn out too bad.

The main concern with Carsley is that managing in international football is a completely different animal to managing at club level.

We therefore have zero idea as to whether it would work out with him or not.

Isnt there a risk with every manager?

Look at Sunderland, they employed Regis Le Bris, an unknown who had just suffered a relegation in France. so far he hasn't done too bad.
We have to find the right fit for our club.

In international terms its 1 below the European championship .

It also keeps us playing against top opposition instead of being relegated and playing second rate teams like we are now
Who cares?

There probably is a risk with every manager, yes, but at least with club managers, you know they have managed at club level.

International football is completely different and you are not working with players on a day to day basis, or constantly having to do your homework and prepare for your next opponent week after week.

You also have a much bigger pool of players to choose from and can change your entire side pretty much every game if you want.

It is totally different

I'm not saying it isn't different (although Carsley has coached within club structures, as well as England) what's more important is getting the right fit for our club.

Yeah. I can see how he fits on many levels.

I am not totally against him.

Good article on him here.

More I think on Lee, the happier I would be to be honest.

Head coach which is what we want, develops players, has won international competitions, local connections and according to Turner A feeling of unfinished business with us meaning he wouldn’t jump at the first offer, plays good football and has links to clubs through players and coaches.

Best appointment out of the bunch rumoured imo

I think the fact we're sticking with this "Head Coach" concept would mean the transition from an international team to this club wouldn't be so much of a leap for him. His role would still be to get the best tune out of the players that are put in front of him by a DoF/Recruitment team and other matters are taken care of by others in the infarmous "structure".

Of course every appointment is a risk, but for me you have to load the deck in your favour, so a manager who has club experience at some level. Also, Carsley is only used to working with the cream of the crop.

If it is him then fair enough I'd back him, but he certainly wouldn't be my choice.

Load the deck in your favour? Can't see us bringing that many more players in.
