ifollow changes this season? (1 Viewer)

I know there's already an ifollow thread but this is just for clarification of how things are different this season.
I've been having all sorts of problems ever since the MK Dons league cup game. I think this one was a special one off match pass but this didn't work and took me round in circles.

Last season I streamed basically every game on a laptop in the live match centre on ccfc.co.uk. I also have an app on my phone left over from last season which appears with simply the name 'Coventry' and our badge as the app icon. Occasionally I would use this on mobile data if my normal wifi laptop setup was not doable.

For this season I got the confirmation email on September 1st from ifollow saying "Congratulations on becoming a video season pass member".
Not once this season has the live match centre worked. I tried to buy the one off match pass (despite being subscribed as a member for the season) and this just brought up a red error message. Very rarely it would find it's way to a buy match pass style page but then would completely freeze. Different browsers / cleared cache / restart computer...no luck. I then realise there's what appears to be a new phone app 'EFL ifollow' which managed to work for Bristol City (with the usual hiccups). I want to watch on my laptop like usual though - is the live match centre just broken? Do I now have to watch on a phone with this new app? Is there a desktop version? Is the old app now obsolete? Do we have to buy special match passes for away fixtures but the home ones are already as normal to subscribers?

I tried contacting ifollow by email and on the live chat several times with zero response.

Can somebody clear up what the hell is going on please because it has been very frustrating at such an exciting time for the club.
Any help appreciated
PUSB

I usually just login on the site on my laptop and open it there in the match centre?

Which Season pass did you buy?

There was an email in August saying that it would renew automatically and be the same as last season.
Service Summary
Service:
Season Pass
Total Price: £140 or local equivalent (inclusive of VAT/sales tax)
Subscription Period*: 1 Season

Then the September email says:
Membership: Video Season Pass
Sub total: €138.33
Tax: €27.67
Total: €166.00

Why would they put the price in Euros? Have I somehow signed up for an international pass and a regular one?
very confused
:/

For some reason I did not need to use a VPN last season.

Same as me. I let the sub run this year and can access through both the new app and the CCFC site without a VPN no worries. I assume because the game was available in the U.K. anyway. Looking at the app the next game I can watch is Barnsley. Had to buy a pass for Gillingham as well.

The EFL cup games were not available abroad so if you had registered for the season pass they probably had you down as being abroad & not entitled to it. The Bristol City game was open to all, but in the UK you had to buy a match pass as the season pass is supposed to be only for people abroad. Sounds like you may have fallen between two stools.

Just use a VPN so it thinks you're abroad. Windscribe usually works and it is cheap, NordVPN is better quality but it is more expensive and can be difficult to use in my experience.

I live abroad and use Hola to switch to a uk VPN. It’s free (for the first 3 hours a day) and has worked well for me.
Be careful with Hola, my understanding it it's a P2P VPN meaning you're taking someone else's IP address when using it but somebody else is taking yours. Means somebody could be doing some dodgy shit and it looks like you're up to it.

Thank you - yes I think this sums it up. Was still unable to buy a match pass for MK dons game...not sure why that was, and still got to see the Bristol City game on phone app. I hope it'll work out eventually but it sure has been frustrating gearing up for a match and half knowing you won't see it.
...Also I already realise that tomorrow's QPR game is not on ifollow due to being on sky (before anybody throws that in)
Appreciate the pointers though people.
Cheers

You should be able to watch Barnsley on the web at CCFC.co.uk or through the app. If the web isn’t working try all your normal stuff like clearing cache, changing browsers, etc.

Not sure if your question about the app was answered, but yes there is a new EFL iFollow app this season. When you login into it with your iFollow account it goes to the Coventry section of it. The old ‘Coventry’ app is now obsolete as far as I know, although it might continue to work for a bit.

Thanks, yeah will have to see what happens with the older app. If I continue to struggle streaming through the match centre I might be on the phone all season...might find a way to cast my phone on to the laptop or something.

ifollow need to sort out their customer service though - but I suppose that's nothing new

You can't cast, but just off the top of my head what you might be able to do assuming you're on windows is download BlueStacks Android emulator, install the iFollow app on that, then use a HDMI cable to the TV to watch there. Just a theory, not tried it and is a bit:

Casting from phones / tablets not currently supported (at least not on Apple devices)! The whole thing is a bit flaky for non technical types tbf. They really should make it less clunky to use.

If you can bet it to work via browser on laptop (what I do these days) you just need the hdmi cable, no need for emulator etc. Worked on chrome for me last game no bother (no doubt it won’t work next time).

Oh yeah obviously, it’s just he was saying he can only get it working on the app so was thinking last resort.

Was this with screen mirroring or using the share button thing on a video feed?
It was just the airplay from mac, never tried using the icon on the feed.

Another tip for people using a vpn with limited data, once you've got the game going you can turn your VPN off and it will still work. Just don't refresh the screen.

Hah - yes thanks for the tip. Was also gonna look into AirDroid but have read mixed comments about it.
If I manage to build something out of pans, hammers, ramps and ball bearings that works then I'll definitely let people know.

That was your excuse anyway.

The older app is obsolete now, might as well delete it. If you load it up, at least on iOS, it takes you straight to the App Store to get the new one.

Been like this for years, not sure why. I stream NHL, which is the same company, and it works perfectly, and has apps for Apple TV, Fire Stick etc. They also do streaming for the likes of WWE, UFC an NFL which doesn't seem to have all the issues we have with ifollow. Makes me wonder if the EFL are trying to do it on the cheap.

Completely understand if this frustrates people as there has been so much discussed on it and I have tried to read it all but still aren't fully sure how it works. Not a 'look at me!' (although LOOK AT ME GO!) but went to near enough every game last season and if I didn't it was because I was busy so unable to stream so I have never used iFollow. I have heard pretty bad things from most so am slightly tentative about how it will work with the Club Membership. Device-wise, I have a smart TV, an iPad (probably 4 years old) with an iPad to TV connector, and a Laptop with HDMI to TV capacity. Will I be able to watch it through my TV or will none of that work, so will have to be on a smaller screen? Again, apologies if this is a frustratingly repetitive post!

So weird it wouldn't work for me. I just got a black screen trying that from MBP to AppleTV.

Laptop to TV with HDMI is the most reliable of those I’d say.

No if you have a HDMI adapter for you iPad you should be able to do that.

Laptop to TV with HDMI is a safer bet, just in your web browser :) I have no issues with that.

Cable didn’t work for me last time, lightning to HDMI just did the same as AirPlay, black screen with sound. It has worked (once, I think) in the past but never again!
Edit: should say from iPad, laptop with HDMI cable works fine for me.
