What does the new leader claim he'll do differently?

What does the new leader claim he'll do differently?

Supporters of the rebellion among Labour councillors told the Coventry Observer they and much of the Coventry public have grown increasingly alienated by Coun Lucas’s ‘autocratic’, ‘dogmatic’ and ‘undemocratic’ style of leadership.

At its worst, rebels claim Coun Lucas’s dogmatic and aggressive leadership style has seen Labour group and local party colleagues being left out of key discussions and decisions. Examples given include the detailed proposals for operations for a deeply controversial West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) headed by an elected mayor, a system rejected by Coventry voters by two-to-one in a referendum in 2012.

The rebels also believe the council under Coun Lucas has not done enough to challenge the Conservatives in government over schools’ policy including ‘free schools’ and academies, and over cuts to local authorities.

Backers for the leadership challenge who have turned against Coun Lucas also accuse her of misleading Coventry voters and taxpayers. It is understood those seeking to oust her will include in their manifestos a need from more truth and transparency with the public.

Some told us she has particularly failed to present a full picture to the public on matters including the Coventry City Football Club/Ricoh row, and, just last week, the quiet appointment of a new acting chief executive to cover for the £175,000-salaried Martin Reeves, when he is diverted onto work for the emerging WMCA – both stories revealed by this newspaper.

Dogmatism etc is all very well, but not like we'll see any policy shift, is it.

All just hot air, so far.

We'll sit and wait. There's an EGM of City Council soon. Need to see changes.

Couldn't happen to a nicer cretin. Sadly her legacy will long outlive her.

It's like a choice between AIDS and Ebola!

It's all well and good saying saying she's 'failed to present a full picture to the public' now she's soiled goods. Where was this concern for her 'autocratic’, ‘dogmatic’ and ‘undemocratic' style in the run up to the last election when Duggins and friends knew we would be signed up to the WMCA once Labour were elected? Or when the public were being mislead about the Ricoh?

Untrustworthy, self-interested and certainly not working for the city of Coventry. But when average turnout is just 27.48% it's hardly surprising they feel they can do what they like.

Somehow I doubt there will be many (if any) major policy changes, its not as if there has been an open revolt except behind closed doors, they've all stuck together in Council votes.

Hopefully there will be better transparency, but unfortunately Labour won't be ousted from control in Coventry any time soon.

It will not probably change much but Lucas had to go.

Her ego and self delusion was becoming too much. Undemocratic, pompous, arrogant and sneering at the electorate.

That's the legacy if this ridiculous non entity.

Good riddance.

When it gets to the point that other counsellors in the same party are saying they are finding out what is happening from the local media it shows you how she was running it as a dictatorship.

Really hope Reeves goes as well now. He's got an easy way out, can bow out saying he's concentrating on the WM council.

Yeah... they're lying. Seriously, I don't think there's an honest person amongst them. Greedy, self important, and do not give two fucks about the people of Coventry.

The combined authority should have been with Leading the way in Warwickshire.
It should have gone to a vote such a big decision to go all dictator on.

Hahaha. Good riddance.

It was always about her, and tonight it was, about her leaving. Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.

The role he has at WM has no salary so he will hang on in Coventry to keep taking the 175k for part time work

Yes but she was hardly Margaret Thatcher. Now that is a grave worth dancing on!

210 isn't it?

£175k salary plus pension contributions to take it to around £200k, as I understand it mate. Not in your league Nick, obviously, but not bad for three days work a week. :)
