Had a season ticket (Northampton aside) upto the start of this season. Have been to 1 game, Grimsby away which actually wasn't a bad game/day out. But this season we made the decision to go and watch Coventry Rugby on a regular basis, and the contrast couldn't be more stark.
We finally realised we had been only going to the Ricoh out of sheer blind loyalty.Most of the games were dreadful, the match day experience is awful, the fans understandably are frustrated,there is no atmosphere with so few fans there,and the mood is toxic.
Even though Cov Rugby are only in the 3rd tier,and themselves have had similar financial problems,and a similar fall from grace, the contrast couldn't be greater. Although the crowds are a lot smaller than football,in a lot smaller ground the atmosphere and noise is far better. The game on Saturday was great entertainment,and whilst I appreciate a lot of football fans don't like Rugby, if you do then the BPA will give you a far better match day experience.
Really pleased CCFC have won their last 2 games, and hope we can go on and have a really successful season, as the remaining fans truly deserve it,

I am sick of looking at this forum and people banging on about Wembley sheep and people not supporting the team unless it's fashionable to etc. etc.
I have supported Coventry City my whole life (which is stretching into it's fourth decade) and in younger days when I had more free time, I had a season ticket. Nowadays, despite living walking distance from the Ricoh, I go to maybe four or five home games a year.
Do bigger teams entice me to go up more? Yes.
Does the weather put me off going? Yes (I often buy tickets on the door because I haven't planned to go in advance).
Does a poor on-field product put me off going? Yes.
I am simply not able to go to every home game. I can't afford to. I haven't got the time. I would rather spend the time with my young family, who I don't get to see enough during the working week. Therefore I need to be encouraged to go. I need a decent incentive. It is hard to justify spending £24 plus any food/drinks on a poor product. And I reserve the right to pick and choose which games I attend considering that I know for a fact I'm only going to spend my money on a few each season.
That might well mean that I'm not a 'true supporter', or that I don't care enough about the club or whatever other meaningless rubbish gets thrown about (I won't call them insults because they aren't really, because they don't really mean anything.) But it is people like me who the club needs to try and convince to come more often. I can't be the only 'casual' Coventry fan out there. And you can't be annoyed or surprised when people like me don't turn up on a soaking wet Tuesday night to watch Carlisle United in League 2. We have other ways to spend our time and other things to spend our money on. If you can and want to spend your time/money at the Ricoh that is brilliant, but do not have a pop at me and those like me for making different decisions.

To be fair I'd want to watch the champions league and Cov. I chose Cov, but wish the CL games were on another day. I'll watch any footy really - you must enjoy other games too surely?

Absolutely spot on - I'm a ST holder but have no problem with what you're saying.
The club hopefully will pull the crowds back this year with success on the pitch - however I agree that 25 quid is a rip off for div 4 footy.
The main point here being is that we now play small clubs with small away followings. Hence the atmosphere is terrible. The games don't feel exciting as you walk up to the ground.
I said after the Carlisle game to my brother that I hope we can at least make it back to the championship one day. Loads of decent sized midlands clubs who'll bring away fans and make it a better spectacle.

I think people fully understand when people have families and jobs etc. I know I do.
It is more when people make things about morals / principles that the digs are flying in about. There are people who gloat about low attendences and think it's great.
I've never personally decided on whether to go and watch judging by who the opponents are though, if I was going to watch somebody other than CCFC I'd just stay at home and watch it in the warm.

But you must understand why Coventry vs Birmingham/Leicester/Wolves appeals to a non-season ticket holder more than Coventry vs Lincoln/Carlisle/Newport?

We aren't in the same league now though, but the Coventry vs at the start is still the same. In fairness aside from the shocking keeping at Newport people are more likely to see us win in League 2 than playing the other teams.
I know people who went to Wembley, give it "city till I die", kiss the badge and go mad for it and say they are "ccfc boys" and then the next week will say "what you going to watch that shit still for?"
I'd "personally" rather watch Cov vs Lincoln than Real Madrid Vs Barca.

It's always been the same though, one day we could get 18,000 at home to Wolves in the Championship then next we'd play someone like Kidderminster in the cup and get 6,000. Its still Coventry vs at the start but the opposition isn't enticing enough.

That's exactly it, "personally". Every club needs a hardcore of people who will go to everything regardless. Not everyone can or wants to do that. If it came down to it, I'd rather watch Cov v Lincoln as well. But there must be many, many people living in the city, especially those who don't have a close affiliation to the club (anybody who wasn't born in Coventry for example) who would easily choose Barca v Real Madrid, but might be tempted to go and watch Coventry at Wembley, or a top of the table clash at the Ricoh.

I have a mate who is sort of the same, if you say it's above £15 he won't go. If it's a tenner he will, however that's just for the match ticket.
Pre game he will either lose about 35 in a fruit machine or in the casino, buy about 3 overpriced beers and hot dogs and then lose more money in the casino after. He will have to buy a couple of bars of chocolate from the Ricoh though for during the game at a quid each or whatever they are.

For me if I want to go I go regardless of who we are playing but i must say its absolutely ridiculous penalising the casual walk up supporters, I know I have thought about going at the last minute before then thought fuck it because of the stupid price rise, so I dont know how many that stupid fucking idea knocks off the gates
