    Championship thread 23/24

Definitely. Norwich & West Brom face difficult summers if they don't go up with parachute payments ending. Want to face more teams on a level playing field.

    Mason-Clark

McNair had the measure of Gyok in the semi... until he got booked fouling him just before half time. Second half Gyok ran him ragged. Frees like Browne (POTY at a rival & they want to keep) and McCallum (young, we already know what he's like & they want to keep) make a lot more sense than a...

    Formations Next Season

Can see us being very effective playing a 4-3-3 with a 4-4-2 out of possession shape. Even before signings we could play: In possession: Eccles - Sheaf - Torp Saka - Simms - Wright Out of possession: Saka - Eccles - Sheaf- Torp Simms - Wright

    Formations Next Season

Don't see 4-4-2 personally. Looks far too attacking. We'll continue to play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 next season. EMC & Wright can rotate LW - a lot of top teams now have 4 quality wingers to replace both on 60 minutes against tiring fullbacks.

    Summer transfer window 2024

Simms would be stupid to go to the Prem now. Brentford have already signed their Toney replacement & Bournemouth have Solanke. He'd get limited minutes and he's shown he needs a run in the team. Doubt we'd accept the bids anyway, which would probably be around 10m. If he continues his...

    Sporting in for Latibeaudiere?

Lati's biggest problem for next season is what position is he trying to nail down? I know that is the point of a utility player but every utility player is trying to cement their position and are happy to cover if needed (e.g. Eccles nailing down CM this season but has covered RWB/RM when...

    Summer transfer window 2024

Think we do need both if we want the option of going 4-3-3. Would leave us with: Sheaf/Kyp Browne/Eccles Torp/Allen Any less than that and we'll probably end up playing Lati in there again next season.

    Transfer Rumour Alan Browne

This doesn't really show anything other than how incredible it was that we made the Play Off final last year with that wage budget. I'm sure we're comfortably top half now with all the signings made.

    Summer transfer window 2024

Same happened last season. Dasilva & Lati were first to be linked & signed - free transfers are easier to get done and are done early in the window. Don't worry, we'll still be learning about a signing through a translated tweet from a Portuguese journalist. After the links in January to the...

    What did Ipswich get right?

Think the only thing the differentiates Ipswich from a club like us is McKenna. The reason the bookmakers had them in the top 6 before the season despite finishing 2nd was because their stats in league 1 demonstrated that they struggled against low blocks but would be more successful against...

    What did Ipswich get right?

Tide is starting to change. FA realised during the Sven & Capello eras that British coaches were miles behind the rest of Europe & improved the training and tactical focus. Now starting to bear fruit (O'Neil, McKenna, Carrick, Mousinho, Evatt)

    24/25 is THE year

While I agree it is a usual trope after every club gets excited over their signings, if you look at the coaches you can see why the league will be more condensed. At the bottom of the division the dinosaurs have left (McCarthy, Pearson, O'Neill etc) and have been replaced by promising young...

    24/25 is THE year

The Championship is always competitive but early signs are showing next year is going the most open it has been since we've been back due to the amount of quality coaching in the league. With the 3 coming down and the 3 missing out on the play offs you already have 6 strong sides next year...

    Summer transfer window 2024

I wouldn't expect players in any quicker than last year. At least this time we can already field a whole team rather than having Howley & Bidwell at CB.

    Recruiting for first team coach

We do need a new goalkeeping coach. Our outfield players generally improve while they are at the club but 3 goalkeepers in a row now have regressed from when they first broke into the team.

    Championship thread 23/24

While we didn't do enough in January to finish in the top 6, they actually went too far in January despite making some great signings. Trying to bed in 7 players (4 were loans who's parent clubs will expect them to start) in the middle of the season is actually nuts. You can sign quality but...

    Concerned now

Not sure why people keep moaning about squad turnover. We’re not going to sign 8 players every summer but we need to right now. Last season we did about 2/3rds of a rebuild due to the sheer amount we had to do. We then had little to no squad depth and we’ve fallen short. This summer we need to...

    Summer transfer window 2024

The free transfer market looks particularly strong this summer. Be interesting to see if we can pick any of them up. Just think the parachute teams will be able to offer a superior wage package.

    Concerned now

The Bidwell situation is similar to the Jack Grimmer one back in League One. A fans favourite and solid player for the division being replaced as Robins wants somebody better on the ball to progress the team. If we sign a LB as good as MvE we'll have all forgotten about Bidwell by September.

    Da Silva

Think he’ll be useful while we’re in the Championship as an impact substitute - if we’re chasing a game at LB or if we’re seeing it out at LM. For a free transfer to bulk out the squad (especially while our academy isn’t up to standard) it isn’t the worst outcome. Can’t see him starting many...
