Classic & Retro Gaming Thread (1 Viewer)

Since most modern games leave me unstimulated, bar the odd bash on MGS or Dead Island 1/2 etc, I really have no time for contemporary gaming. It's just my preference, not a statement. :)

I have a few Emulators on my laptop, since sadly ALL of my classic consoles were destroyed by a leak in my attic: SNES, Megadrive, NEO GEO, Dreamcast, NES...all gone. It was tragic. But anyway:

This afternoon, as a Sunday tradition now, I've been playing on my SNES Emulator with my eldest child: she loves the retro games like Mario Allstars, Mariokart, Donkey Kong and Pop n' Twinbee. She's actually better than me at Mario platform games, somehow. :)

Anyone else enjoy a spot of retro gaming, here?

Unfortunately, game company's seem to be regurgitating games, rather than thinking of new ideas. (Like COD 4 remastered for example)

We seem to have stalled in the gaming world for the time being :(

Yeah still enjoy playing on my spectrum emulator

Now that's serious retro gaming. :)

I know it's not strictly legal, and I won't promote their use, however emulators are just the ticket for those who love old games, but no longer have the consoles or resources to play them.

Speaking of arcade gaming, Adge, ever own a NEO GEO? The emulators are still glitchy, but it was a quality console; pricey games, but well worth it.

Neo Geo (system) - Wikipedia

It's an arcade simulator, mate, a pretty hefty console system for 1990. The emulators were still glitchy, but I think the neoRagex5 was probably the best.

It has a good catalogue of games/ROMS if one has the time to look. :)

It's also worth mentioning, a lot of games of that era were feckin' well hard to complete.

Anyone remember The Chaos Engine for PC, Amiga and SNES? Took me 3 months to get through that, and 6 weeks of that was solid gaming through the summer holidays.

Also, I borrowed a Japanese Famicom from a friend once, he had some quality imported/exclusive titles on it, but the toughest was Gradius 2 or 3. Serious button mashing.

Also, and I know some of us will always remember our first time doing this: the first controller I smashed in frustration was playing MK on the SNES, bloody Shang Tsung...I gnashed on the thing first, then hoyed it up the wall.

Loved Chaos Engine, top game on the Amiga. Also Zool was good, always loved Monkey Island was a top game that was. Syndicate was another amazing game! Speedball 2 I used to play for hours

I remember buying Beneath a steel sky and it come with about 13 floppy discs. You were forever changing discs on every screen!

Anyone remember Gain Ground for the Sega Master System? Alex the Kidd? Cloud-Master? Addictive is the only word I can use that describes those games.

Anyone remember the arcade in Gosford Street? Full of quality arcade games, even a retro Outrun at some point, oh my weekends were expensive as a kid. :)

Sega Saturn was a tidy little system as well, I loved the Panzer Dragoon games and Nights. Fighters Megamix was, in my opinion, THE underappreciated beat-em-up of the 90's.

Spent most of my dinner money on street fighter 2 in the mini market on ball hill! Used to love arcade games. WWF was another classic, playing legion of doom at the end

Yep-paradise amusements! The bunk off from schoolers would always congregate there.

Now you're talking.

I shudder to think how much pocket money I put into that, never would have believed that years later I could just download it and hundreds of others for free on an emulator

Remember it well, they had Tron in there, which I loved as a kid, the movie too!
Dragon's lair (not everyone's cupo'tea) was down my local video shop on Rotherham road and played it a lot.
