New Ground Nonsense (2 Viewers)

Whilst Sisu consistently claim they will build a new ground outside Coventry they are very quiet on where it will be.

Coventry is surrounded by green belt land. Upon greenbelt land the emphasis on planning is reversed. For example, if I wanted to build a football ground on the old Courtaulds site, planning permission would be permitted unless the council, or local resident grounds had a good reason for it not to be allowed.

On greenbelt land the presumption is no development will take place unless proven necessary. I.e. if I wanted to build a football ground opposite Coombe Park it can be rejected without any real reason being given other than it is on the greenbelt. It would then be down to me to prove why it had to be built, using one of the following reasons:

Providing opportunities for access to the open countryside for the urban population - Well it doesn't really do that, more the opposite in fact.
Providing opportunities for outdoor sport and outdoor recreation near urban areas - Might be able to use this one, although still unlikely as its not sport opportunities or recreation. This would be more used for something such as a golf course or park.
The retention of attractive landscapes and the enhancement of landscapes, near to where people live - Definitely not this one.
Improvement of damaged and derelict land around towns - Not much of that type of land around here
The securing of nature conservation interests - Unless its a home for retired sisu directors then no.
The retention of land in agricultural, forestry and related uses. - Carrots growing in the penalty box?

So its highly unlikely it will be greenbelt land. So looking at the map below there isn't much else outside of Coventry that isn't greenbelt:

map.jpg

Other than Brandon (which we are all aware would be difficult to get planning permission for anyway) there is only Ryton (already half built on). The idea that come about recently of land by Warwick Uni also appears to be greenbelt, the only bit that isn't is within Coventry, but Joy doesn't like Coventry so it wont be there.

Not that it needed me to write this for people to realise it, but the idea of a new stadium is just rubbish. If anyone can see any other brownfield sites outside of Coventry then I would be interested to know.

Is pro logis park in Keresley classed as Coventry or Nuneaton and Bedworth / Warwickshire?

It is obvious that no ground will be built for the reasons you give (which are entirely valid if the land is classed as greebelt and not greenspace - and even then unliekly to be granted for the reasons you state). There is already a ground fit for purpose - no planning authority would grant permission fo another one when it isn't required. Their focus is on housing and associated growth/regeneration (such as the Ricoh area for example).

Im stuck for where the new ground could be built 6 miles from coventry centre doesn't give you much options.im guessing it would have to be alot further away than that . They've said it will be based on the rotherham ground which is perfect for a league one club.has it's own shops and restaurants but it only works because it's in the city centre.not going to work with our new ground being out in the sticks somewhere.

I'll just point out that the goalposts are moving on the 'new' stadium dates..

Fisher and SISU are committed to building a new ground, obviously outside the jurisdiction of Coventry City Council, within three years. In the meantime, they are heading 31 miles south-east to Northampton to play their home fixtures.

Ms Seppala maintained she has already attracted investors to fund the club for years - including the losses from playing poorly attended ‘home’ matches at Northampton, and the costs of building a new stadium in the Coventry area within five years.

I'm aware of 3 possible sites that come under other Councils and of course the 'red-herring', so don't agree with your comment new ground nonsense!

Let's just wait and see????

Well if you read the official statement from Coventry Stadium, they have clearly ruled out that as a potential site.

'The freehold remains available for sale and whilst we have had several parties show interest in securing the freehold for the site, only one has continued to show interest given the existing leases for speedway, greyhound and stock cars.
The confidential nature of negotiations needs to be maintained and as such we will not confirm or release details of the potential buyers, however to stop further speculation from fans of various sports which take place in the stadium these will all continue to operate at the Brandon site until 2023 and hopefully well beyond that date.'

Indeed tickets for the World Stock Final on September 20th 2014, are now on sale. Pretty conclusive proof that the Brandon rumour is a complete red herring. 4/5 months after the new ground plan was launched by Fisher, and still not one credible location has been found.

Any new ground has to be authorised by government,as was the Ricoh. They have to show traffic impact, and unless rules have changed since blair, they would have to limit traffic. This is why thereis so little parking around the Ricoh! It was a governmental decision. They would have to show a strong business case, and need. I cannot imagine they could argue they need yet another new stadium, when less than a decade ago they had one purpose built!

And sadly for sisu, not being prepared to pay the rent is hardly a valid reason to build another stadium!

They could always threaten to take the government to court over their human rights.

The National Planning Policy Framework brings some of the decision making down to more of a local level (although ultimately dtill through the planning authorities), with community input through consultation and local neighbourhood plans etc.. Is there a requirement or a desire for a new football stadium in the Cov area? Answer: no for the first and highly unlikely for the second. As per the OP - it isn't going to happen.

Having looked at the boundry map of coventry can think of about 3 sites.
Ryton - still potential land to build a ground on the old peugeot site but would cause traffic chaos at Kami khazi island plus ryton residents would kick up
Baginton, part of a major development on the old airport site, in time they will improve kami khazi island but again there would be chaos but again residents to upset as village of baginton is a few miles from airport
Junction 2 m6 where Erickson is no resident issues but limited routes in and out again traffic chaos on the M6 hinckley road.

What all these potential sites have in common are souless locations with limited local amenities where very few will be able to walk to the ground, a long way from train stations won't do well on the environmental scores.

An underpass for A46-A45 traffic is being built at Toll Bar End, works have started, there will be at least 3 years of added chaos. Details are on the Highways Agency Website.

They dont exist, not one district council, incl warwickshire rugby and leics have had any proposals put to them for a new stadium, more sisu spin

They exist as a scare tactic, as a stand off, as time buying exercise.

its seems we all know that except RFC. so if RFC does know something the rest of us don't the least he can do is share it with us, he might want to share it with shitsu too. ;)

(edit) forgot to say, Solihull council too. so that covers all the neighbouring councils.

RFC is just another toothless Sixfields fan who is prepared to do nothing for the cause and quick to pour scorn on the majority who do give a toss

If we are to build a new stadium at least lets have it in Coventry as close to the city centre as possible. It could include a school, sports facilities, offices and industrial units to get goverment planning on there side. Whats the point of a football stadium in the countryside, people say it won`t happen but i thought that this season before moving to NTFC. You might say we will get refused planning because of the Ricoh but it could be out of the councils control. Rotherhams Millmoor is still in use after the same problems there. Courtaulds on Foleshill Rd could be possible?

I take it you haven't read that Joy Seppala has said “Instinctively, it would not cross my mind to have it within Coventry City Council’s boundary given the history, histrionics and the issue of freehold ownership."

Absolutely and I stand by it. Toothless, they are the ones going on to the ground who could really protest and make Fisher aware of our feelings, yet nothing which makes me wonder how much these super fans really do give a shit.

Maybe all these super campaigners could organise something decent that everybody agrees on to show them rather than draw pictures of them on the hill? I bet SISU are shitting themselves about it. All of these type of posts actually make me want to go to sixfields.

The fans should be united and all of these pointless campaigns do nothing but divide them and stir shit up, let's get something decent organised. If you are going to go into the press and say how amazing you are and that you have succeeded and that you are the reason SISU have given interviews then get something big sorted out rather than just putting up a couple of printed posters up outside an office and taking pictures of strangers.

I admire your passion, but the fans and the fan organisations need to be bringing the fans together.

I totally agree; time for a big protest. I think that NOPM is starting to work hence JS's appearance recently but it has to be followed up by something big.

I am not a WUM. I know this has been mentioned before and probably been discounted due to transport links but Warwick University is the site that SISU are definitely pursuing. I dont give a shit if anyone believes me or cares but I assure you this is their number 1 target. They want a retail park to stand beside the stadium and fund its construction. Brandon not an option at all. I'm not going to tell you where this has come from other than it is from the top of SISU to a reliable third party.
I am a NOPM supporter and hardly ever post on here unless I feel the information is important. Cue the typical wum bullshit replies...if any...Save this post and see what transpires.

Would make sense why they wanted the academy up there.is this the same land that is up for sale if HS2 goes ahead ?
