Is full back a defensive or midfield position?

I didn’t mean you specifically, I meant generally.

whenever we sign players it’s always ‘that’s too much’

it’s not our money for one and two, trust the manager
Fair enough.

I think we got Simms for a very good price (3.5m with add ons) there is value out there.

It is the clubs money. And trusting the manager doesn't mean he's always right.
We will however support his decision, but how many people on here (if they are honest) would of paid 2million for Thomas?
And based on that, what would McNally cost?

Defensive.
Wing back however???
I meant wing back hahahah

to be honest I’d have paid 2 million for Thomas, we’ll be selling him for 10 in a few years

you say he’s not always right, in the central defensive positions he is, this profile of signing he gets right every single time

I answered the 2 mil question before but shockingly you chose to ignore it. He hasn't spent it because he hadn't had the opportunity to. I'll ask you if we paid 2 mil for latibeaudiere and 500k for thomas would you even be questioning it?
Yes I'd question 2m for Lats.
And I think Thomas would of been sold to a lower championship club for 500k
All of a sudden the price goes up when it's Coventry calling.

I feel spending close To £2M on him is a massive gamble when we hardy know anything about him, i see Burnley were quick to offer him as part of the Hamer deal along side Mcnally, if true, and suddenly we are making an offer on him, rather we had Mcnally, this Thomas guy could be shit.
6 posts above yours is a Barnsley fan telling you he is quality after watching him for half a season

You don’t know the fine print of the deal. We were told £8m for Simms. Yet the details appear to be; initial fee of £3.5m raising to £5m based on performance and only raising to £8m upon promotion to the Prem.

I doubt we playing big stack bully with the Gyokeres money. The deals seem to be structured in a way that costs are spread out and conditional on outcomes like promotion to the Premiership. Hence the potentially higher overall cost.

It could be an intelligent transfer strategy.

The headline figures quoted by news outlets will always be the absolute top end, maximum fee (if they are even correct).

I can guarantee that we'll be paying less than half of the quoted £2m upfront & probably only half of it is even guaranteed with the rest tied into bonuses etc.

As you say £3.5m+ for Simms looks a great deal but if we were just going off the headline £8m most would be wary, saying it's too much etc.

Probably as many as that Swedish bloke we had.
Remind us, did we spend 2 million on him, or did we get him in on loan and try him out in the championship first?

You have to laugh when someone fucks their own argument up.

I'll bite

We tried him out on loan and lots of us on here said he wasn't good enough

Thankfully the club management had better judgement than we did.

If you’re going to gripe about making the same £2 million gambles on players that other Championship teams routinely make, even after we’ve just had £19m land in our account, when are we ever going to compete?

That's right

And if you can be arsed to trawl through the posts you'll see that I was one of the few that rated him very highly from the start.

And he still only cost 1 million! Bargain.

I believe if we’d had Gyok for the whole season we wouldn’t have been able to sign him by the end of it.

We were lucky he wasn’t fit when he arrived and the coaching staff only got 6 months with him.

I bet Norwich felt really silly for buying Maddison for £2.5m without trying him in the Championship first.

And Spurs when they paid £5m for Dele Alli and took him straight from L1 to the Premier League without trying him in the Championship.

I think King understands very well the need to spend a bit in order to accumulate and then sell on. £1-2 million seems to be where the action is

Speculate to accumulate....

we can afford bigger "gambles" now and the pay offs will be bigger as a result...common sense

We need the squad to be full of our own players on long term contracts. The reliance on the loan market is not a progressive or affordable way to go. We should use the loan market but not rely on it to bulk your starting 11. This is another change we are seeing in the club and long may it continue.
Every club in the lower leagues uses loans , we aren't an exception
