Chinese or Korean students would definitely not be interested in a Japanese player.

But he would be a great signing. Any Japanese overseas players generate huge interest in Japan as they are all seen as potentials for the national team. If he makes an impact, we could expect Japanese TV crews at the CBS on a regular basis.

Any new Japanese supporters would be fanatical.

No red cards either.

He’s already a Japanese international so would
be a good move to join a top Championship team like us.

About time we looked at the Japanese Market, can pick up some real gems there, look at Kyogo, Mitoma etc. Could be a shrewd addition, bet he can take a free kick too 😉

I actually managed to convert 5 of my coworkers in Tokyo across to following us.

I was working out there this year and football was our common ground. I walk into work most Mondays to an MS teams chat discussing the coventry result.

The Japanese team they all followed is a horror show though, but I did wear my Omiya Ardija scarf to Wembley for a picture.

I ended up sending them all Coventry scarves and mugs for the office, doing my bit for the clubs overseas revenue streams.
An Indian lad who was on exchange at my uni last year took a real soft spot to us so I got him last seasons home shirt as a farewell present at the end of the year

Wonder if he still supports us

Looks like he has played mostly on the flanks, but plenty of games at AM too.

With O'Hare being out for a while yet (and not knowing how well he will return) I guess it makes sense to sign another AM.

Pros: From the YT overview, he plays on the right but has no problem coming inside. Primarily left footed (long distance shots) but can easily strike them with his left.

Cons: Didn't see him score any with his head. If he's that fussy about ruining his hair, no thanks. Would create a terrible atmosphere in our changing room of ever increasing baldness :p

This note from the originating source - Price 2-3 mill euros

KV OSTEND. Coast boys sell Sakamoto to Coventry

KV Oostende loses another important pawn after the relegation. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (26) moves to Coventry City, England. The Japanese left flank will therefore play in the Championship. Coventry is approaching the asking price of around two million euros, which can rise to three million euros through bonuses. AA Gent and RC Genk were also interested in the Japanese, but they did not want to go that far financially. Sakamoto had 7 assists last season. (Jug)

Sakamoto getting a hand from Fadz next season...

Hit 1 hardly created a titter. Hit 2 got an ouch, slightly better. Hit 3 coming somewhere from out at left field got me fully :ROFLMAO: And thats Solihull ??? Good job our youth teams don't get them in that local cup competition.

Yes they would be. Same as white British blokes would be absolutely buzzing and all over someone from Sweden or the Netherlands.

And the Indian bloke we were linked with all the time a few years back would increase our British Asian attendance.

Honest guv

Japanese players tend to be versatile as they are taught that at a young age, and looking at his stats he seems to have played on both flanks, AM and SS.

Think there's a fair number of Koreans as well but my guess would be Japanese numbers are fairly small compared to those two.
At Cov Uni it is massively mainland China (1000+ each year) followed by Hong Kong and South Korea (100+ each year) and then as you say much smaller numbers from Japan and places like Taiwan.

Maybe we’re waiting on the signing before Doug gets Subaru back as our sponsors!!!

I honestly don't think they would be interested. Quite a lot of animosity towards Japan in both Korea and especially China.

Anyway, song time...

He's a nihonjin

He only cost 2 million,

We think he's fucking brilliant!

Tatsu - hii - ii - ro!!

Or something.

Going loco with Tatshuri Sakamoto

Finally we are taking advantage of some far eastern players. So proper ballers in the J leagues. Its an absolute crazy leagues mind you

One day you can be playing at a huge stadium in Tokyo next you can play infront of like 4k max fans in the middle of rural Japan
How many teams could compete in the championship you rekon from the J league?

I was hoping the ‘honest guv’ would drive home that I was talking the piss out of the suggestion that someone would suddenly turn up because someone else from their general area in the world signed for a team.

It’s patronising as fuck. Was there an extra load of season tickets sold from Coundon when Michael Doyle re-signed a few years back?
