A shit Dennis Wise

Saying that Im very happy Doyle's coming back.

He played his best football for us when he was alongside Wise as he didn't have to try and be the 'enforcer'

Doyle is 100% what we need for L2! Cracking bit of business, but as always it's not Kante so it won't please everyone!

Fine, I'll take that . Though what you're suggesting is that he's Joe Cole who doesn't play cos he isn't fit rather than he might miss 25% of games through one injury.

Chances of long term Injuries. Increase with age. That is part of my logic.
What I am saying is exactly what I have been saying he won't play the majority of our games and we need someone else as well, in order to protect him so he can play more often.
He will not play the majority of our games either because he will need to be rested and/or injurues he picks up.
The fact he played 42 games last season is not the biggest factor for me. Last season he was not 35 going on 36. There are very few Ryan Gigg's out there.
I wasn't saying he was a bad signing I merely said because of his age we also need a back up to share the load

Fantastic easy money for a good cause.....

£20 to a charity of the winners choice

if he plays less than 75% of all league games. I win
75% or more you win.
I'll have the same. You will be paying up well before the end of the season.

Am I the only one who doesn't remember him 'putting a boot in'?

Hes hardly a Joey barton, Robbie Savage or Michael Brown type of player; one you don't want playing against you but wouldn't mind in your team. A horrible bastard!
I do remember not longer after he first signed for us, we were playing Wolves at Highfield Road, and in the first few seconds he went absolutely straight through Paul Ince (Michael Doyle says hello style). He was so close to getting sent off, and any other minute in the game he would have been. But after a long delay while Ince was getting treatment, and a bit of a kerfuffle, he just about stayed on by the skin of his teeth and the ref gave him a yellow. Don't remember Ince doing anything for the rest of the game.

Exactly the type of player we need. If he is as bad as some are trying to say Portsmouth became champions while carrying a player all season. To me he is a Dennis Wise without the skill. And look what age he played until.

Most supporters watch who has the ball and where it is going. Try watching players like Doyle off the ball. He gets in players faces. Constantly nudges and kicks them. And if our opponents has a player that keeps going past us he will put in hard tackles until they slow down. He is a leader and will let any player know if he doesn't think that they're putting enough effort in. A fair few of us said that it is the type of player we need. Robins knows what we need. And I am delighted that we have got him so early.

The modern "crazy gang" style will certainly help to survive and get out league two. Good work, and a early signing. Positive.

Could be a cracking move, you have to have a few of his types down at this level. Always been a fit lad with a good engine..................only concern is why did Pompey let him go ?

They didn't, he was told he'd be offered a new contract went on Tuesday wasn't there told to wait he admits he had to be selfish and City put an offer to him which he accepted.

I've linked the interview with their local paper further up.

We have now sunk so low that we have found a level in which a 35 year old St. Michael of Doyle might genuinely be a decent signing.
This is so depressing.
How often have we signed the captain of the club that has just won the division that we are going to be playing in?

He also wants to come to us and already lives locally. The only thing I see against the move is his age. But how many players have we had in recent years that have played as many games as Doyle? It isn't as though his game is constantly sprinting up and down the pitch.

So who do those who are unhappy to see him come back think we should have got who is available and not after too much money?

You are. Leave your phone alone next season and watch him off the ball. Then watch our opponents not try running past him but looking for the weak link.

I think the most pleasing thing about this signing is that we have moved early to secure a player.

Refreshingly decisive

Imagine if Mowbray had pulled his finger out a bit earlier with the recruitment last season we may not be in this mess

We were saying similar in January when we signed Clarke and Beavon early on and thought 'this is going to be a decent window', weren't we? It means nothing

They told him they wanted him to stay but hadn't offered him a contract yet. Not unusual considering the season has just finished.

Most fans realise our position but there are still a few who think we are too massive to be signing the likes of Doyle.

Whilst nopm.

And many more than a few who no longer care, whilst not calling it nopm, just walked away

Not often I like to be proven wrong! Time will tell!

As for leaving my phone at home, even if I didn't have my duties on here (;)) I'd never be without it!

I look forward to seeing our opposition players quaking in their boots when lining up against the tough tackling midfield mystro many seem to think we have signed :)

Getting a squad together before the start of the season and trying to find players to fill the gaps mid season are not similar.

Not surprised you never noticed Doyle doing the dirty work. I didn't tell you to leave your phone at home

January is different, way harder to get decent player in.

Also it turns out that Slade was utterly clueless and didn't have a plan. I feel Robins already knows what he wants

Well they are. And we did get excitable (not excited; after our shite first half of the season getting excited was a pointless task).

Clearly it's difficult to get a 'decent' player in in May too; we've just got Doyle :D

Robins has signed a captain months before the season starts. I have a feeling that there will be more to follow. Much better than players meeting for the first time a few days before the season starts...or even later. Could well help us get a good start and get confidence flying.

Who said anything about captain? That'd be the fucking icing on the cake for me if that happened!!!

I tell you who will bo over the moon with this signing .. torch didn't Mr Doyle ta have his pic taken once with torches best mate on it ? Or was I over taken by fumes again?

No fumes involved this time Dan, you are spot on, I remember the picture too.

Was looking through the thread to see if Torch had posted how happy he was at Doyle's return

So you don't want a captain with a big gob that isn't afraid to use it? The same player that was captain for Division 4 champions last season?

Or have you forgotten about getting relegated again? ;)

It had better be. I am really feeling confident about next season now.

It's crazy how much Doyle divides opinion. I think it's a great signing if he hasn't suddenly dropped off a cliff due to his age.
