How's 2016 been for you? (1 Viewer)

So, overall it's probably been... good, but that's coloured by the past couple of months more than anything when things have turned upwards dramatically. Beginning of year was alright too but sandwiched in between, about May to October, sheer unadulterated mental horror.

Broken down a bit.

Job: Super stressful. Seems I have four(!) different contracts to make up my working week, a constant threat of redundancy. One major project done, run-up to another finishing shortly... let's see what 2016 brings.

Relationships: Hmmm, surprisingly normal. This can't be right, so chickens not being counted.

Holidays: Just Devon and Cornwall. A forced trip to escape work as much as anything.

Health: Weight up in direct correlation to stress. Urgent aim is to reverse this. Keep forgetting to take the tablets I'm supposed to but that's forgetfulness from early onset of middle age. Compared to half this board, I think I'm blessed ;)

So, how's it been for you?

Job: Same old same old. I'm in the sweet spot of being fairly well paid without having great stress or extra-curricular responsibility. When the biggest complaint is the commute I can't grumble too much

Relationships: Got engaged and married and bought a house, so a bit more eventful than most years

Holidays: Tenerife the week before getting married, La Gomera is stunning. We were planning to go to Munich last week for the Christmas markets but after what happened in Berlin we would have been on knife edge the whole time so it's almost lucky it didn't work out.

Health: Registered with a new doctor and had to have a routine checkup where I was surprised to find both blood pressure and cholesterol are ace, I assumed they'd tell me something bad. Would still like to lose a bit just because, but other than that I've only got a weak left shoulder thanks to a long-term rotator cuff knock when playing football

Job: None

Relationship: The same, so terrible

Holiday: None

Health: Put on weight. Problem with my sinuses. Arthritis in my knees and fingers. Compared to many though, that is I am sure really healthy.

The second half of 2016 has probably been the most emotionally-challenging of my life. Genuinely feel drained and hope 2017 will be better.

Amen to all that, brother Marx.

Only thing differing is the absence of a relationship (joyful, I must say) and I've actually lost weight, due to a combination of 'flu and a sickness bug in April.

Polyp on my right sinus, Arthiritis kicking in pretty much everywhere but my arse, a strange Ear Canal pressure issue and I trapped my fucking fingers in my daughter's fold-up micro scooter and lost a chunk of my left pinky finger.

The job front is an impossibility, since I'm a single dad of two young children, but all in all, 2016 was shit. I'm guessing 2017 will be a paler shade of shit, but shit nonetheless. And yes, for a Christian, I fucking swear far too much. :)

On the whole 2016 has been a great year with not many setbacks. Hopefully more to come in 2017.

Job
: Going fantastic. Learning a lot, developing fairly quickly and really starting to earn some responsibility which is what I wanted (I may regret saying that in a few years!) Last two weeks before Christmas were the most stressful of my life thanks to client deadlines so I'm glad that's been boxed off. Two pay rises isn't too shabby either!

Relationships: Still going strong with the other half despite being long distance. Both saving for a house deposit whilst living at home as renting is dead money to us. Parents are fantastic as always

Holidays: Quite a few this year: Bath during Valentines, Wales for a weekend in April, a week in Rhodes in June, Centre Parcs in September, Cape Verde in October and Christmas markets in Hamburg a few weeks ago. Looking at Greece agin next year for a week and Aruba in October

Health: Was a regular gym goer before I packed it in due to studying a fair bit. No immediate health problems but I am looking to run more in the New Year as I'll still be learning a fair bit so wouldn't warrant a gym membership.

Happy 2017 everyone!

Job- good had some stressful moments but got through them been working on nights for most of the year to earn better money to sort the house out

Relationship- My wife is a wonderful woman and so good natured, daughter is 12 and takes after her mum and has developed a great sense of humour we occasionally but heads I think that is because we are quite alike too.

Home- bought a house 18 months ago we had a new bathroom fitted, renovated the garden and had new windows fitted 2 weeks ago it really feels like home now

Holiday- we had a week in Quesada at a villa lovely and quiet and to be honest very cheap

Family- my parents are both in their mid 70s and are thankfully in the best of health, my dads abit forgetful at times which raised a few concerns but other than that he's
fine. Her mum and dad are struggling though never seems to be a day go by where they aren't either at the hospital for check ups or the doctors for appointments. Would be a help if her siblings helped a bit
Health- Bit disappointed in myself on this as I started running in January I started doing 5 mile runs 3 times a week, gradually I increased the distance and by the summer I had got up to 8 miles 3 times a week. But between August and now I've reduced the amount and have to start again now
But I have signed up to do the half marathon in March, I did it 2 years ago in 2hours 8 minutes so I'm aiming for that as a target

I'd say it was a good year

Health and happiness to all you all and best wishes for the new year

Job: I'm self employed so It's always stressful but it has been the busiest year I have ever had.

Family & Friends: worst year ever, Dad died, Mum diagnosed with heart failure due to complications with her ongoing cancer treatment, Grandad had stroke and heart attack, Uncle had massive heart attack whilst competing in bicycle road race, good friend committed suicide, people I love getting divorced, friends lost babies....utter shite.

Relationship: we have had our moments but we have been together since we met at college (17 & 18) 23 years ago, she is my best friend and possibly the funniest person I know.

Health: I had a cold sore in March.

Job this time last year I was in a job I hated was sacked as couldn't achieve the ridiculous targets (thank god I don't think you are supposed to laugh when they do it) got another job and hate that as well, want to be a postman but never get to interview.

Family my aunt died earlier in the year, children getting bigger as is wife;) (not pregnant just greedy) parents both retired now

Home is up for sale having to move to get youngest son into the same school as my son as we are out of the catchment area as things stand we will have three children in separate schools in different parts of the town

Relationship better than Otis's

Holiday Cromer which the children love next year maybe IOW a lot will depend on house move

Health not the best year but been a bit lazy fitness wise and it has caught up with me

Can't resist this....apologies if this is off piste because it's great to see we're all dealing with opportunities and challenges that come our way.

Here's mine:

Job: I want redundancy /less hassle. Could get my wish next year. Will I work beyond that?

Family. Elders in decline. More of the same next year. Son hoping to get on the over inflated property ladder.

Home. Ok. Need to get the emulsion paint out next yr. garage needs tidying. New patio? Chop conifers down so the neighbours can see daylight.

Relationships. The past year has been weird. Family interested in the. ID. . Never bother picking up the phone and contacting me.

Holiday. Last year. Camping st Ives x2. Sorrento in April. Fuerteventura October. Next year I will take 3 weeks unpaid leave and go other places as well.

Health. Need to stop eating.. I go to the gym most days and burn off 500 cals per session. Need to talk to people more.

Happy New year to all.

I prefer to look forward rather than back, so ...

Job:
Hope to retire in 2017. I'll miss some of the work and some of the people, but you can't go on forever. When I retire, I'll be working on two antique cars in my garage.

Family: Only me and my 2 daughters. My brother and cousins are thousands of miles away. All parents and grand-parents, all aunts and uncles gone.

Home: Is in a nice area but needs lots of work both inside and outside. I still have some unopened boxes from when we moved in 15 years ago. Must clear out the garage. I have way too much garden to upkeep; eight full-size trees and a gazillion bushes.

Relationships: None except with my daughters. Trying to build memories they can remember when I'm gone. May have to get a cat.

Holiday: Will be going somewhere near the ocean where its cooler. May visit some lakes or mountains. It's hot as hell where I live.

Health Good from day to day but could drop dead any minute. You'll know if I stop posting. I believe laughter is the best medicine. Avoid stress at all costs.

Job: I enjoy my work, but got a bit lazy in 2016. Going to change that next year, but still wondering when to retire.

Relationships: good as always.

Holidays: complete Family trip to Florida that went really well.

Health: Worse part for me. Had 2 heart attacks in the last 6 years, and serious "undiagnosed " muscle problems that really hamper movement, so unfit and heavier than I would like. Always concerned as heart doesn't seem to work as well as its supposed to, but docs keep saying everything is "fine".

Old man died in his 40's though, so I've had nearly 20 years longer than he did, so I guess that's something.

Begs the question, when is middle age?

2015 was so shit that 2016 couldn't help but be an improvement.
Ironically, I made quite a bit more money in 2015 than 2016 which just proves the old adage. money isn't everything, is spot on.

Job: Good, I'm in the lucky position where I get paid a decent wage and have no stress to go with it. Couldn't be happier work wise. Although I'd love to have my own business one day.

Relationships: None existent, tried it on with an older bird at work which went down like a lead balloon. I spoke to another women at work about it, and she said that I was way out of her league (i'm bang average). So I thought why not, and it was a disaster, we went from being good friends too not speaking at all.

Holidays: None, a lot of trips away mountain biking but no 2 weeks away in the sun type holiday,

Health: Generally quite good, but been having problems with my stomach for about 2 months. A bloke a work mentioned his brother has been having very similar stomach issues and he got diagnosed with cancer, I'm sure I won't have that, but it's a worry and I wish he never told me.

Job: I am so lucky to be in a job where the work is abundant and have managed to travel abroad with work as well which was nice.

Relationships: Annoying…are they all like that ? The eldest graduated which was superb to say the least and the others are excelling at school (where the fuck do they get the brains from)

Family and friends: Lost a lady who was like a mum to messhe fought the Big C and beat it but out of the blue she passed on…terrible gutted.
Also lost a few mates off the contacts list as being a fukwit doesn't hold for me despite over 25 years friendship.

Holidays: A holiday to the Canaries was excellent also fishing in Weymouth was good and a company shout to Toulouse was an experience.

Health: Got lard arsey and shed it before Chrimbo

Can you have a holiday when you've retired? Isn't it one long holiday?
That's my plan anyway.

2015 was very good, but 2016 was totally shit.

No idea what to expect this year.

Technically, yes, it's a great big holiday! But it can get monotonous after a while! Trying to think of things to do every day. You can only do so much on a small island and although I have my hobbies of photography and fishing, you can't do that every day without it getting boring. So I really look forward to a trip back to the old city now and again!
